DURHAM – Following a 3-1 week on the diamond which included the first series victory over a No. 1-ranked opponent since 2009, Duke baseball climbed to No. 6 in the
D1Baseball poll on Monday, the highest ranking in program history by
D1Baseball.
The Blue Devils began the week at home against Appalachian State, scoring 16 runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Mountaineers, 28-2. The week continued will Duke's first ACC series of the season, traveling to No. 1 Wake Forest.
On Friday, Duke claimed its first victory over a No. 1-ranked opponent since 2016, defeating Wake Forest, 8-5. After falling to the Demon Deacons in game two, the Blue Devils completed the series victory on Sunday, holding off Wake Forest to claim the first series over a No. 1-ranked team since 2009 against North Carolina.
Duke was also tabbed as the No. 3 team in the country by
Baseball America and the No. 5 team in the country by
Perfect Game.
The Blue Devils open a six-game homestand on Tuesday hosting a double midweek against Rider, before continuing ACC play with No. 10 Clemson at Jack Coombs Field.
