DURHAM – The Duke volleyball program and head coach
Jolene Nagel announced the addition of four players to the 2024 squad as
Mailinh Godschall,
Breonna Goss, Avery Hamlin and
Taylor Williams will join the Blue Devils in the fall.

Jolene Nagel said. "They're excellent students, solid volleyball players and good people. We look for them to build upon the foundation that so many that have come before them established here at Duke."
MAILINH GODSCHALL
Ellicott City, Md. | Centennial High School | 5-7 Libero/Defensive Specialist | Metro Volleyball Club
Mailinh Godschall comes to Durham as a 5-7 libero/defensive specialist from Ellicott City, Md., where she attends Centennial High School and competes for Metro Volleyball Club.
Most recently in 2023, she was named Baltimore Sun All-Metro Player of the Year and All-County Player of the Year in addition to her first team Washington Post All-Metro honor. Her high school team captured the 2A state championship as she was named a captain for both her junior and senior seasons.
She has excelled as a valued member of her club team and in 2023, she was named first team All-DMV by Prep Dig and is ranked as the No. 1 libero in the DMV area. She has competed in multiple Girls Junior National Championships and was an Under Armour All-American Camp Series nominee in 2022 and 2023.
Outside of volleyball, she's a member of her high school's National Honor Society where she assists in volunteer events to help develop leadership and make an impact in the community. She's also one of four founding members for Helping Hands for the Homeless Hearts, a non-profit organization that gives donations to the homeless several times a year.
"Mailinh is a talented and experienced volleyball player who we're excited to have joining us in Durham. She has been playing since a very young age and at the highest levels nationally. We look for her ball control and defensive skills to bring consistency in our back court. She is an excellent student, coming off of a state high school championship, and along with her years of success on the volleyball court, she is a great fit at Duke."
BREONNA GOSS
Fishers, Ind. | Hamilton Southeastern High School | 6-0 Middle Hitter/Rightside Hitter | Munciana Volleyball Club
Breonna Goss comes to Duke from Fishers, Ind., where she is a senior at Hamilton Southeastern High School. She is a 6-0 middle hitter/rightside hitter and is a member of Munciana Volleyball Club.
Most recently, Goss captured back-to-back 2022 and 2023 Indiana State Championship and the AAU National Championship in the same years. She also captured the 2023 SB Live National Championship and has been named to multiple all-state and all-conference lists. Additionally, she holds the single-season hitting percentage record for her high school. Goss has also excelled in the classroom with 2023 academic all-state recognition.
Outside of volleyball, she is a member of the National Honor Society and was part of the 2023 Shakespearean Banter contest.
"Breonna is a dynamic and exciting middle blocker who has won both state and national championships. With the strength of her high school team in the state of Indiana along with her club team nationally, she brings a lot of winning with her to Duke. She aspires to do great things and has been in an environment where work is second nature. We're excited for her to continue her career with Duke volleyball."
AVERY HAMLIN
Austin, Texas | Lake Travis High School | 6-1 Outside Hitter | Austin Junior Volleyball
Avery Hamlin comes to Duke from Austin, Texas, where she attends Lake Travis High School and is a 6-1 outside hitter for Austin Juniors Volleyball.
Most recently in 2023, she reached 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs as she was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 6A all-state team. She also earned Fraulein Fest MVP honors as a senior in addition to the being named to the Volleypalooza All-Tournament Team. As a four-year letterwinner, she helped lead her team to the 6A State Finals in 2022 and 2023..
Outside of volleyball, she is a National Honor Society member, an AP Scholar award recipient and a founder of the Breathe Initiative – a mental health awareness club on campus.
"Avery brings to Durham a lot of experience as a versatile player and has played multiple positions over the years. We look for her to be primarily an outside hitter for us. She is an excellent student with a team mentality. We look for her to bring her positive energy and years of experience into our gym and push everyone around her."
TAYLOR WILLIAMS
Mountain View, Calif. | Saint Francis High School | 6-2 Outside Hitter | Vision Volleyball Club
Taylor Williams comes to Duke from Mountain View, Calif., where she attends Saint Francis High School. As a 6-2 outside hitter, she competes for Vision Volleyball Club.
Williams excelled in high school and club competitions with numerous accolades on both teams. In 2023, she was named an AVCA Girls High School second team All-American selection and to the third team AVCA Girls Best and Brightest. A Co-Player of the Year, she earned the fourth-best state ranking by Prep Dig California and helped lead Saint Francis to the Nike Tournament of Champions Southwest Platinum Bracket Championship title game where she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
With her club team, she earned a USAV 16s Open Division Junior National Championship top 15 finish and was named to multiple All-Tournament Teams.
Outside of volleyball, she is a member of the Black Student Union and a member of the Environmental Club.
"Taylor is an athletic, smooth outside hitter who has gained valuable six rotation experience in high school and club the past two years. As one of the top players in northern California, she has proven her ability to play at a high level. She has been working to develop her strength and skills and we're excited for her to join us in Durham."
