DURHAM – Duke men's lacrosse standouts
Kenny Brower, Jake Naso, Brennan O'Neill and
Dyson Williams are among the 50 players named to the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Wednesday evening.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
O'Neill is the reigning Tewaaraton Award winner, becoming the third Blue Devil to take home the trophy last season. Brower earned a spot on the Watch List a year ago, while Naso and Williams made their debuts.
Brower, Naso and O'Neill all are returning first-team All-Americans and Williams was Duke's top goal scorer in 2023. All four Blue Devils are off to a strong start to their final seasons in a Duke uniform, helping the Blue Devils to a pair of commanding victories.
O'Neill, the reigning ACC Player of the Year, headlines the Duke attack unit with 15 points from six goals and nine assists. He ranks sixth in Duke history in career points (241) and goals (159) and is on pace to become just the eighth player to have 100 goals and 100 assists in his career.
Williams is Duke's top goal scorer with eight markers in the first two games. He is tied for sixth in career goals with 159 and is on pace to become just the third Blue Devil to reach 200 for his career. He recently helped Canada to the silver medal at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championships.
A starter on close defense in every game of his career, Brower anchors the Duke defense that is allowing just 10.50 goals per game this season. He leads all non-faceoff specialists with six ground balls this season and owns 123 for his career. Drawing the opponent's top attackman for the past two seasons, Brower has 57 career caused turnovers and needs just three to become the sixth Blue Devil to 60.
Duke's new faceoff leader with 818 wins at the dot, Naso has been the Blue Devils' top draw man throughout his career. He has won 61 percent of his faceoffs over the past three seasons and ranks 13th in NCAA Division I history in faceoff wins. Picking up 456 ground balls for his career, Naso ranks 19th in NCAA history and is 19 away from passing Brendan Fowler's record. He also has 16 goals and eight assists in his 54 career games.
The second-ranked Blue Devils are 2-0 this season and return to action Feb. 17 against Saint Joseph's. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
