DURHAM, N.C. – A pair of Blue Devils – Katie Groff and Cameron Roller -- were named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week on Tuesday, following helping the Duke women's soccer team register a 1-0 victory against 12th-ranked Virginia Tech this past weekend in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in Durham.
In the first half, Groff pushed through the game-winning goal off a corner kick from graduate student
Hannah Bebar in the 33rd minute. It marked her third goal of the season and second game-winner in NCAA Tournament play over her five-year career with the Blue Devils. Groff, a native of Raleigh, also scored the lone goal against Texas in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
Roller, who hails from Sherman, Texas, tallied the assist on Saturday's game-winner, while also playing 90 minutes on defense. The 2024 ACC Defensive Player of the Year has spearheaded a Duke defense that hasn't allowed a goal in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
With the victory, Duke (18-2-1) moved on to the NCAA College Cup for the fifth time in program history. The Blue Devils will face eighth-ranked North Carolina Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m., at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. It will mark the fourth time this season the Tar Heels and Blue Devils meet on the pitch.
