DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's tennis head coach
Jamie Ashworth announced Monday the signing of
Liv Hovde, who was the 2022 Wimbledon girls' singles champion. Hovde will join the Blue Devils for the spring of 2025 campaign.
A native of St. Paul, Minn., Hovde is a former No. 1 recruit nationally, while featuring an Intercollegiate Tennis Federation (ITF) career-high ranking of No. 3 and a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) career-high rankings of No. 245 in singles and No. 354 in doubles. Hovde also owns seven ITF titles.
"Liv and her family will be a tremendous addition to our program and to the entire Duke community, both on and off the court," said Ashworth. "They visited a few weeks ago and absolutely loved Duke. Her family had great meetings with our entire support staff along with the girls on the team and it was just an excellent fit for us and also for Liv. We're excited that she's going to be joining our program. Liv has a wealth of experience she will bring, both in the U.S., and internationally. What she has accomplished in the junior tennis world and where she is right now in the professional world are all impressive accomplishments that she should be proud of and we're hoping to build on here at Duke."
Her biggest win to date came in 2022 when she defeated Hungary's Luca Udvardy, 6-3, 6-4, for the Junior Wimbledon Girls' Singles Championship.
Hovde also claimed the ITF singles titles at the 2024 W35 Boca Raton, 2023 W25 Bethany Beach, 2022 W25 Fort Worth and 2022 W15 Lubbock events. She has hosted doubles trophies at the 2024 W35 Loughborough, 2023 W25 Edmonton and the 2023 W25 Redding tournaments.
Hovde will join the Blue Devils for the spring of 2025 season, which opens Saturday, Jan. 11 as Duke hosts James Madison inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center at 11 a.m. Duke featured a solid fall season and feature four singles players ranked nationally –
