DURHAM, N.C. – As the Blue Devils prepare to travel to Waco, Texas this weekend ahead of the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship, Duke will feature another student-athlete competing as sophomore Shavit Kimchi has received a singles invitation for Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Kimchi was originally listed as the first alternate, but Ashton Bowers from Texas withdrew so Kimchi was added to the singles field of 64. A product of Sdey Hemed, Israel, Kimchi has won five out of her last seven matches heading into the NCAA Singles Championship. It will mark her second straight appearance in the singles championship as she also competed as a rookie this past spring. Kimchi owns 23 singles wins over her first two seasons so far.
Duke features four singles and one doubles team competing next week in the championship. The four singles selections – Kimchi,
Irina Balus,
Eleana Yu and
Emma Jackson – are the most from one school in the field. Eight other programs have three singles players behind the Blue Devils.
Balus and senior
Ellie Coleman will also take the court in doubles. Everyone except for Kimchi and Jackson will be making their first appearance in the championship.
The official bracket will be announced on Nov. 16 with singles starting on Nov. 19 and doubles on Nov. 20.
