DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke infielder/outfielder and a seventh-round draft pick in the 2021 MLB Draft,
Joey Loperfido, will deliver the keynote speech for the 13th annual First Pitch Banquet on January 25, 2025.
Loperfido was one of three former Duke Blue Devils to make their major league debut last season, joining
Graham Pauley and
Griffin Conine.
The Haddonfield, N.J., native appeared in 81 games across two organizations in 2024, beginning the season with the Houston Astros (38 games played) before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays (43 games played) at the deadline. Loperfido was elevated to the majors on April 30th, securing his first MLB hit and RBI that evening.
Loperfido became Duke's 12th Freshman All-American in program history following the 2018 season, posting a .315 batting average and appearing in all contests as the Blue Devils secured the program's first Super Regional run. Over his four years in Durham, Loperfido started 170 games while posting a .317 batting average across four seasons. He tallied 201 hits, 37 doubles, nine triples, 18 home runs, and drove in 96 RBI.
