CHARLOTTE – The ACC held its annual women's basketball tipoff event Tuesday at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown, where each of the conference's 18 schools previewed the impending 2024-25 season with the media.
Fifth-year head coach
Kara Lawson, junior
Ashlon Jackson and senior
Reigan Richardson, spoke to the media on the team's expectations and goals for the upcoming year, along with the group's tight-knit bond and strong team chemistry with 11 letterwinners back in the fold.
"Right now, the strength of our team is our togetherness and our chemistry," said Lawson. "We have a really tight-knit group. How that shows itself on the court is I think we're very connected on both ends. I think we have an unselfish team. I think we have an understanding of each other's strengths and really work throughout the course of possessions to try and allow someone's strengths to show themselves. I also think we have an understanding of each other's weaknesses. Instead of waiting for them to show themselves, they try to hide them for each other. If someone doesn't know something, they're going to try to say it to them so they can get it. That part about this group has been fun."
In addition to their media availability, Lawson, Jackson and Richardson took part in photoshoots, radio appearances and network video segments. When asked about what she's worked on this summer, Richardson spoke about her continued growth as a leader.
"I feel like, speaking – again, going off of my ability to just be able to be that leader for my team," said Richardson. "I've always had that aspect going from last year, but just being able to develop that a little bit more, as well as just continuing to grow each aspect of my game. Whether it's figuring out how to finish off two feet, continuing to build my mid-range game, getting beyond the arc, or ball handling. I'm continuing to grow each aspect of my game."
Duke opens the 2024-25 season at home against Radford Monday, Nov. 4 in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils' third annual Education Day game is slated to tip off at 11 a.m., live on ACCNX.
