NEED TO KNOW
- Coming off an impressive win at seventh-ranked Stanford to open the West Coast trip Thursday, the top-ranked Duke women's soccer team (10-1-0, 5-0-0 ACC) will close the road swing Sunday, Oct. 13 at No. 17 California (10-2-2, 3-1-1) at 4 p.m. (ET).
- Sunday's match will be aired live on ACC Network Extra with Dr. Ty-Ron Douglas (PXP) and Mia Fontana (Analyst) on the call.
- Duke is riding a 10-match winning streak heading into Sunday's contest.
- The Blue Devils have totaled a school record by scoring three or more goals in seven straight matches.
- Duke has scored a goal in the first half in 10 straight matches, which is the second-longest streak in Blue Devil history (14).
- On the season, Duke has scored 36 goals by 12 different players.
- Robbie Church announced on July 22, 2024 he will be retiring at the end of the season and Duke will be promoting associate head coach Kieran Hall to head coach in 2025. Current assistant coach Carla Overbeck will move to associate head coach in 2025 as well.
STORYLINES/OTHER BLUE DEVIL NOTES
- For the second time in program lore, Duke has opened ACC play with a 5-0 record (2024, 2017).
- The Blue Devils (5-0) and Tar Heels (6-0) are the only undefeated ACC teams remaining in league play.
- Maggie Graham owns eight goals over her last nine matches, while adding five assists. She owns a career-high 21 points on the season. Graham has scored or assisted in eight out of the last nine contests.
- The 28 goals over the last seven matches for Duke are the most over a seven-game stretch in program history.
- On Tuesday, Duke moved to No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll for the first time in Blue Devil history.
- Duke holds a +143 advantage in shots and +31 in goals on the season.
- Duke leads the ACC with a 2.82 goal margin (scored 36 and allowed 5).
- Fifth year Ella Hase owns a tied for team-high seven assists, all of which have come over the last seven matches. She tallied two against Missouri and SMU. Her seven assists ranks tied for third in the ACC.
- Devin Lynch has scored or assisted in seven straight matches, which are also Lynch's first seven starts of the year. She owns four goals and seven assists during that stretch. Lynch ranks tied for third in the ACC with her seven assists.
- Duke has scored 36 goals the last 10 matches, while the Blue Devils scored a total of 15 goals a season ago in 16 contests.
- Blue Devil head coach Robbie Church reached the 300-win mark against SMU. He is the winningest coach in Duke history.
- The last time the Blue Devils dropped a season opener was in 2017. Duke went on to win 19 straight after the loss and made an appearance in the NCAA College Cup.
- Duke was shutout in the season opener for the first time since 2014, which was also a loss to Ohio State (1-0).
- The last time Duke head coach Robbie Church dealt with a losing season was in 2014 and the next year he led the Blue Devils to the 2015 NCAA College Cup.
THE SERIES WITH CALIFORNIA
- Duke and California will meet for the fifth time in program history with the Blue Devils leading the series, 3-1-0.
- The last meeting with the two programs came on Sept. 6, 2015 in Durham with the Golden Bears winning, 3-1.
- It will mark the first contest played in Berkeley.
- Duke head coach Robbie Church owns a 1-1-0 mark against California.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
- California enters Sunday's contest with a 10-2-2 ledger and is coming off a 1-0 loss to second-ranked North Carolina on Thursday.
- Karlie Lema (13 goals, 5 assists) leads the charge for the Golden Bears.
- On the year, California is 8-1-1 at home.
- The Golden Bears have won nine out of their last 11 matches.
HEY, I KNOW YOU!
- Elle Piper, Bianca Dominguez and Julia Saunicheva played with via summer league or in the same club with numerous Golden Bears -- Karlie Lema, Mia Fontana, Kei Kitamura and Maddie Gambs.
- Saunicheva was a teammate with Kelly McManus at UCLA and played with Teagan Wy on national teams.
- While at Oregon, Leah Freeman went 2-1-1 against California in goal. Both wins came in her hometown of Berkeley (2-0 on Sept. 30, 2021, 1-0 on March 26, 2021).
- Freeman played club soccer with Julia Leontini.
HEADING BACK home TO CALIFORNIA
- The Blue Devils will take eight Blue Devils -- Leah Freeman, Elle Piper, Julia Saunicheva, Mia Minestrella, Kelly Wilson, Madison Foxhoven, Bianca Dominguez and Caroline Dysart.
- Dominguez's parents live approximately 15 minutes away from the Berkeley campus.
- Junior Farrah Walters is also heading back near where she spent the last two years playing for Santa Clara. The team practiced there Wednesday.
- Freeman was born and raised on the edge of the California campus. She went on to play high school soccer for the Berkeley High Yellow Jackets, which was only a couple of blocks from Cal's Edwards Stadium.
- Freeman was a ball girl at Cal games growing up in the Alex Morgan era and has a pink Converse shoe with Morgan's autograph to prove it.
- Freeman's mom, Kerry, went to Cal and her dad, Dale, went to Stanford. Freeman was at the 2015 NCAA Tournament match when Duke defeated Stanford in penalty kicks to send the Blue Devils to the College Cup.
- She chose to attend Oregon out of high school to play in the PAC-12 and to play a few games in front of the hometown crowd. Freeman's first match against Stanford was in 2020 in Eugene, Ore., and the Ducks totaled a 2-1 victory and Freeman notched four saves. It is still the only time Oregon has defeated the Cardinal.
BLUE DEVILS COLLECT STATEMENT WIN AT STANFORD
- In its first match as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Duke posted an impressive, 4-1, victory over No. 7 Stanford on Thursday.
- Duke goalkeeper Leah Freeman came up huge for the Blue Devils with a season-high seven saves and stopped a second half penalty kick.
- Maggie Graham tied a school record for goals (3) and points (7) on the night, while becoming just the eighth Duke player to collect a hat trick and only the second in ACC action.
- The victory by the Blue Devils snapped a 34-match home unbeaten streak by Stanford at home inside Cagan Stadium. Duke's four goals also tied for the most allowed by the Cardinal at home in program history.
- Graham totaled the eighth hat trick in Duke history and only the second in ACC regular season play. Her seven points and three goals both tied school records. The seven points in an ACC match were a school record.
- It marked the first hat trick by a Duke player since 2012 (Kaitlyn Kerr).
- The four first half shots for Duke were the second-fewest for the Blue Devils this season (North Carolina – 3).
- The four goals scored at Stanford were tied for the most allowed by the Cardinal at home in program history – California (1986), Cal State Hayward (1985).
- Duke collected four or more goals against a top 10 ranked opponent for the fourth time in program history – #8 Marquette (5-2, Sept. 9, 2012), #3 West Virginia (4-0, Sept. 8, 2017), #9 Clemson (4-1, Oct. 13, 2019).
DUKE EARNS NO. 1 RANKING
- Duke received its first No. 1 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches poll under the direction of head coach Robbie Church on Tuesday.
- Overall, it is the second time in school history the Blue Devils have been ranked No. 1 by the United Soccer Coaches with the other coming in 1992.
- Duke was also No. 1 in the Soccer America poll back in 2012 for two weeks under Church.
- The Blue Devils have earned a top-5 ranking for the fifth straight season and an impressive 10th time under Duke head coach Robbie Church.
- Duke went from being unranked to No. 8 to No. 1 in five weeks, which was the biggest jump in program history.
- For the ninth straight year, the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top 10 nationally at some point during the season.
- Head coach Robbie Church has guided Duke to top 10 rankings in 16 of his 24 seasons with the Blue Devils.
CHALLENGING SLATE AHEAD
- Of the final six regular season matches, five of those are against nationally-ranked foes -- North Carolina (2), Wake Forest (3), Stanford (7), Notre Dame (13) and California (17).
- Four of the six contests are on the road as well.
MINUTES WITHOUT TRAILING
- Since the second match of the season, the Blue Devils have gone 900 consecutive minutes without trailing.
- The 900 minutes is the second-longest streak in program history behind 1017:15 minutes from the 2011 campaign.
- The third-longest streak was 784:36 during the 2017 campaign.
- Both the 2011 and 2017 seasons, the Blue Devils advanced to the NCAA College Cup.
DUKE SCORING IN FIRST HALF
- Duke has scored a goal in the first half of the last 10 consecutive matches, which is the second-longest streak in Blue Devil history.
- The record is 14 from the 2004 campaign.

OLIARO NETS ACCOLADES
- Duke's Mia Oliaro received a pair of accolades Tuesday as the sophomore wingback was tabbed the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week along with receiving TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week honors.
- Oliaro totaled a goal and two assists on the week for the Blue Devils as second-ranked Duke totaled a 3-1 victory over Virginia on Thursday and then backed it up with 3-1 win against Louisville on Sunday.
- Against 25th-ranked Virginia, Oliaro registered the game-winning goal in the 48th minute. Oliaro added an assist on Duke's third goal in the 80th minute as well. On Sunday against Louisville, Oliaro assisted on the game-winning tally in the 28th minute to Mia Minestrella.

- Duke owns a 10-match winning streak on the season, which is the second-longest in Duke history.
- The top streak was in 2017 when the Blue Devils totaled a 19-match streak.

LYNCH SCORING AS JUNIOR
- After not scoring her first two years at Duke, junior Devin Lynch has tallied five goals over the first 11 matches in 2024.
- The only other Blue Devils to be scoreless their first two seasons and then score four or more goals as a junior were Kelly Hathorn (6 in 2007), Heidi Hollenbeck (4 in 2004) and Molly Lester (4 in 2010).
- Lynch has scored or assisted in seven straight matches.
- Since entering the starting lineup against ETSU on Sept. 8, Lynch has totaled four goals and assisted in each of the last seven contests.
QUICK START IN ACC PLAY
- Duke has jumped out to a 5-0 start in ACC play for only the second time in Blue Devil history (2024, 2017).
- The Blue Devils posted a 10-0-0 ledger in 2017 to win the ACC regular season title.
- Duke is averaging an ACC-best 3.2 goals a game in ACC play scoring 16 in five matches.
- The Blue Devils' four goals allowed is tied for third behind North Carolina (2) and Notre Dame (3).

- Maggie Graham has notched four goals, while Devin Lynch has two.
- Ella Hase has scored both of her goals on the road at Nebraska and Clemson. Mia Oliaro own three assists on the road.
- Duke has outshot opponents 72-36 in those matches and allowed only three goals (1 at OSU, 1 at Clemson 1 at Stanford).
IMPRESSIVE SCORING
- For the first time in program history, Duke has scored three or more goals in seven straight matches. Utah Valley has accomplished this in six consecutive contests and will play Saturday, Oct. 12 in its next match.
- The Blue Devils are the only school nationally that have scored in the first half of the last 10 contests. A number of teams accomplished this in eight matches.

- Since the season opener, the Blue Devils have tallied 36 goals in 10 matches.
- Duke's offense has produced a season high goals allowed by four opponents -- UNC Wilmington (4), East Tennessee State (5), Virginia (3), Stanford (4).
- The 36 goals over the first 11 matches ranks fifth in program history -- 40 (1990), 38 (1989), 37 (2004, 2012), 36 (2024).
- The 28 goals over the last seven matches for the Blue Devils are the most over a seven-game stretch in program history.
- Duke ranks first in the ACC in points per game with a 10.6, with Florida State (9.9) second. The Blue Devils' 3.3 goals per game average and 4.0 assists per game ranks first in the league.
- For the first time in Duke history, the Blue Devils have scored three or more goals in the first five ACC matches of the season.
STRONG DEFENSE
- Over 11 matches, Duke has allowed only five goals.
- The Blue Devils had totaled five straight shutouts prior to allowing a first half goal against Clemson. Duke's scoreless streak of 511:94 ranked as the fifth-longest in program history (since 2002).
- Duke's five goals allowed ranks tied for first in the ACC along with Notre Dame. The Blue Devils rank tied for fourth nationally with five goals allowed on the year.
- The five goals allowed over the first 11 games to open a season is tied for the second-fewest in program history -- 4 (2005), 5 (2011, 2015, 2017, 2024).
NOTING THE BLUE DEVILS
- Graduate student Maggie Graham owns a career-best eight goals, 21 points and three game-winning goals on the year.
- Katie Groff totaled her second goal of the season against Louisville and has totaled two goals in each of the last four years.
- Duke finished the month of September with a 5-0 ledger, which marked only the second undefeated month of September in program history (2017 - 8-0).
MIA squared
- For the second time over a span of three matches, Duke's Mia duo connected on a goal for the Blue Devils -- Mia Oliaro assisted Mia Minestrella against Louisville.
- Overall, Minestrella has scored five goals this season and Oliaro has assisted on three of those (Nebraska, SMU, Louisville).
- All five of Minestrella's goals have come off the bench for the sophomore.
