DURHAM – Coming off playing for the San Diego Wave of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) the last two seasons, former Duke women's soccer defender Mia Gyau has signed with Stade de Reims out of France through 2025. Â
"Coming to play in France in the first division, in a culture where football is very appreciated is an extraordinary opportunity," said Gyau. "Starting my international career here is a dream come true."
Stade de Reims competes in the Champions League and currently features a 6-3-2 record and is in fourth place among Division I Women. Â
Gyau, who will wear No. 3, appeared in eight matches over the last two seasons with San Diego. The Wave advanced to the semifinals of the NWSL playoffs in 2023, before falling to the OL Reign, 1-0. Gyau helped San Diego to 21 wins over two seasons.
A 2020 Duke graduate, Gyau appeared in 59 matches and made 38 starts during her Blue Devil career. She was plagued with a knee injury that sidelined her for most of her sophomore and junior campaigns. Gyau started all 21 matches as a senior registering one goal and three assists, while helping lead Duke's defense to nine shutouts.
