DURHAM – The United Soccer Coaches announced the goalkeepers on its NCAA Division I Women's Players to Watch list on Friday with Duke senior
Leah Freeman one of nine listed.
The list is compiled and released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2022, who are scheduled to return for the 2023 season.
Along with Freeman being recognized were Allie Augur (Georgetown), Alexandra Blom (James Madison), Samantha Castaneda (Purdue), Ainsley Leja (Liberty), Bre Norris (Portland), Nicole Panis (Lamar), Emily Puricelli (Saint Louis) and Cristina Roque (Florida State).
Freeman, a native of Berkeley, Calif., enters her first season with the Blue Devils, after an impressive three-year stint with Oregon. The reigning Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year and three-time All-Pac-12 selection is coming off starting all 49 matches and totaling 18 shutouts over the last three seasons for the Ducks. In 2022, Freeman started 17 matches, had four shutouts and was listed as the No. 21 overall player in the 2022 class by TopDrawerSoccer. She led the Pac-12 in saves (114) and saves per game (6.71) as a junior, while leading all power conference goalkeepers in those categories as well.
Duke opens exhibition action Monday, Aug. 7 by hosting Wake Forest at 7 p.m., inside Koskinen Stadium. Admission is free.
