Jadyn Donovan and sophomore
Emma Koabel are back on the international stage this weekend as the pair – representing Team USA and Team Canada, respectively – gets set to open play at the FIBA U19 Women's World Cup, which will take place July 15-23 in Madrid, Spain.
Donovan and Team USA, seeded in Group B, tipoff the group phase of play against Mali at 12:15 p.m. ET while Koabel and Team Canada open action in Group D versus China at 8:45 a.m. ET. The FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup features the world's top 16 youth women's national teams. Heading into the event, the United States leads the way in the
Women's World Cup Power Rankings at No. 1, with Canada slotted three spots back at No. 4.
No stranger to USA Basketball, Donovan looks to help lead Team USA to its third consecutive gold medal and ninth in the last 10 editions of the competition. The Washington, D.C., native already owns two gold medals, having won as a member of the 2022 FIBA U17 Women's World Cup and 2021 FIBA U16 Americas Championship teams.
Koabel makes her second appearance at the FIBA World Cup with the U19 Canadian Women's National Team after playing for her home squad in 2021. The Port Colborne, Ont., product averaged 5.3 points and 1.3 rebounds while helping lead Canada to a fifth-place finish.
Following the conclusion of group play, all four teams in each group advance to the Round of 16, which will take place on July 19. Quarterfinal action gets going on Friday, July 21, followed by the semifinals on Saturday, July 22. The Final and third-place game wrap tournament play on Sunday July 23.
