DURHAM – Four players in double-figures helped Duke cap off its first undefeated season at Cameron Indoor Stadium since the 2013-14 season, as the Blue Devils (22-8, 12-6) defeated NC State, 71-67, on Tuesday night.
Jeremy Roach led all Blue Devils with 20 points and was joined in double figures by
Mark Mitchell,
Tyrese Proctor and
Kyle Filipowski who scored 12, 12 and 11 respectively.
Roach finished 9-of-19 from the field and has now led the team in scoring in each of the last four games, in five of the last six and in seven of the last nine. Proctor made a career-high eight shots from the charity stripe.Â
As a team, Duke out-rebounded NC State 44-35, the 25th time in 30 games that the Blue Devils have out-rebounded their opponent. Duke is 21-4 this year when holding an advantage on the boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams traded early baskets, with Mark Mitchell connecting on his first shot of the game to open the scoring. Both defenses made their presence felt through the first five minutes as NC State led, 6-4.
- Dariq Whitehead made Duke's first three-pointer of the evening, knocking down a contested shot in transition and extending his streak to eight consecutive games with a shot made from beyond the arc.
- Duke tied the game, 17-17, courtesy of the third Jeremy Roach drive and layup of the night. A deadball technical by the visitors allowed the Blue Devils to retake the lead after the under-8 media timeout.
- The Blue Devils made it a nine-point burst after an alley-oop dunk by Dereck Lively II immediately followed by a put-back layup by Lively. Duke led, 24-17, after the run and forced a timeout by NC State with 5:59 remaining in the first half.
- Duke held a slight advantage, 33-29, after the first 20 minutes of play. The Blue Devils got five points from Mitchell, four points from Tyrese Proctor and a layup from Kyle Filipowski to grab their first double-digit lead, 44-34, just over three minutes into the second half.
- The Wolfpack responded with an 8-0 run to trim Duke's lead to two, 46-44, with 13:36 remaining in the game. Roach ended the run and reached 10 points for the game with a driving layup. Filipowski finished off his 13th double-double of the season on Duke's next possession, laying in his 10th point of the game.
- Four straight points from Roach gave the junior captain 18 points for the game and helped the Blue Devils extend their lead, 65-53, at the final media timeout of the night.
- Duke went 8-of-9 from the free throw line to close out the 71-67 victory

QUOTES
- "What a special night in Cameron. The crowd was absolutely incredible and really proud of our team for the growth that we've made this season, their perseverance. NC State is a really good team. They're explosive offensively. I thought our defense was the key to the game. It's been really what we've hung our hat on all year long." -- head coach Jon Scheyer
- "I know it's happened 19 times in this building, but this year was the first time it happened in almost 10 years. Just doing that for the fans, shout out to the Crazies, because just going into every game, personally, I felt that we could not lose a game here. That's just the mindset I had moving forward, that's what we're going to continue doing now, even in Greensboro and on the road." -- freshman Kyle Filipowski
