Duke puts both a four-game winning streak and a 15-game home winning streak on the line Tuesday night versus NC State at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Rece Davis and Debbie Antonelli are on the call for ESPN, while David Shumate and John Roth broadcast the matchup on the Blue Devils Sports Network from LEARFIELD
The Blue Devils are looking to even the series versus the Wolfpack and cap the program's 19th undefeated home season at Cameron Indoor and first since 2014.
Over its four-game winning streak, Duke is shooting .507 from the field and .395 from three-point range with an assist-turnover ratio of 2.1-to-1. Duke's 76 assists over the last four games (since Feb. 14) are the third most among power conference teams.
Duke has held 25 of 29 opponents below their season scoring average (21-4 in those games).
The Blue Devils are second in the conference in scoring defense (63.9), second in three-point field goal defense (.311) and second in field goal defense (.414).
Emerging as one of the nation's top on-ball defenders, freshman Tyrese Proctor has climbed to the 92nd percentile defensively as opposing players are shooting just .308 from the field and .292 from three when primarily defended by him.
Fresh of his first career double-double and a career-high 11 assists, junior Jeremy Roach is averaging 14.4 points in 11 games since returning from injury. In that span, Roach has two 20-point games and his 19-11 vs. VT while shooting .496 (63-of-127) from the field.
Freshman Kyle Filipowski, the eight-time ACC Rookie of the Week, leads all conference freshmen in rebounding and double-doubles. His 12 double-doubles are the most by any freshman nationally, while his 8.9 rebounds lead all power conference freshmen.
The balanced Blue Devils have had all five starters score in double figures in consecutive games for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Duke leads the ACC in bench scoring at 20.2 points per game, with six players on the roster averaging at least 7.0 points and 2.0 rebounds.
Head coach Jon Scheyer holds the ACC record for longest home court winning streak by a first-year coach. Scheyer also holds the Duke record for most wins by a first-year coach.
Duke is 13-1 with its full scholarship roster available, including wins over Xavier, Iowa, Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia Tech. The loss was in overtime at Virginia.
On This Date: Feb. 28
Duke is 20-12 when playing on Feb. 28 and has won five of its last seven on this date.
Duke last played on this date in 2017 -- a 75-70 win over Florida State at Cameron Indoor.
Duke and NC State have met three times previously on this date -- 1946, 1968 and 1980 -- with Duke winning each.
Series Notes
Tuesday's game in Durham marks the 254th all-time meeting between Duke and NC State, with the Blue Devils looking for their 151st win in the series.
Duke leads the all-time series, 150-103, and has won three straight at home in the series where it is 66-30 all-time (53-26 at Cameron Indoor).Â
The Blue Devils are looking to even the season series after falling at PNC Arena in Raleigh on Jan. 4.
Duke had five in double-digit points, led by Paolo Banchero's 21 points, in last year's 88-73 win over the Wolfpack at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
NC State is Duke's third most-frequently played opponent behind Wake Forest (259 games) and North Carolina (259).
Led by Terquavion Smith's 17.6 points per game (third in the ACC), NC State is the league second highest scoring team at 78.7 points. They are also fifth in scoring defense.
Jarkel Joiner is fifth in the ACC in scoring (17.0).
Scheyer Holds ACC Record for Longest Home Winning Streak by First-Year ACC Coach
Duke has opened the season winning its first 15 home games, as head coach Jon Scheyer has establish a new ACC record for longest home court winning streak by a first-year head coach, breaking a mark set by North Carolina's Hubert Davis last season. Davis' streak was snapped by Duke's 87-67 win on Feb. 5, 2022.
Five Starters In Double Figure Points
The last time Duke had all five starters score in double figures in consecutive games came vs. Rhode Island (Nov. 20, 2016), William & Mary (Nov. 23, 2016) and Appalachian State (Nov. 26, 2016) -- the starters were Amile Jefferson, Luke Kennard, Grayson Allen, Matt Jones and Frank Jackson.
The last time it happened in successive ACC games came vs. North Carolina (Jan. 31, 2002) and Clemson (Feb. 2, 2002) -- the starters were Carlos Boozer, Jay Williams, Mike Dunleavy, Chris Duhon and Dahntay Jones.
The three-game stretch in 2015-16 tied the school record for longest such streak -- it also occurred over three-game stretches in 1991-92 and in 1998-99.
Duke's Last Four Games: 2.1 Assist/Turnover Ratio
Duke has recorded 76 assists and a 2.1 assist/turnover ratio over its four-game winning streak that began with a win over Notre Dame on Feb. 14.
The Blue Devils' 76 assists in that span are the third most by a power conference team since Feb. 14, topped only by Kansas' 79 and TCU's 77.
Ten of Duke's 37 turnovers over the current four-game winning streak came in the first half at Syracuse -- the Blue Devils have averaged just under four turnovers per half in the other seven halves of play -- just eight combined coming from the starting back court.
Duke is shooting .507 from the field and .395 from three-point range over the four-game winning streak.
Blue Devils Allowing 63.9 Points -- Second in ACC and 31st Nationally in Scoring Defense
Fifteen opponents this season have failed to top 30 percent from behind the arc, as Duke is second in the ACC and is 43rd nationally in three-point defense (.311) -- in consecutive games against the ACC's best three-point shooting teams (Virginia and Notre Dame), Duke yielded just 10-of-35 (.286) combined.
Syracuse's 55 points in Duke's 77-55 win on Feb. 18 marked the Orange's ACC season low -- and 20 points below the team's season scoring average.
Duke defeated Georgia Tech on the road Jan. 28, 86-43, holding the Yellow Jackets to 18 second-half points and winning by 43 -- Duke's second-largest road ACC win in school history and just the third 40-point ACC road win all-time by the Blue Devils.
The 43 points were tied for the second fewest allowed by Duke in an ACC road game all-time and its fewest allowed since beating Notre Dame, 57-43, last season in South Bend.
The 57 points by UNC were its fewest in Durham since an 82-50 Duke win on Jon Scheyer's Senior Night in 2010.
Aussie Improvement: Proctor Climbs to Top 8% Nationally on Defense
Freshman guard Tyrese Proctor was originally committed to Duke's 2023 class, but reclassified for this season.
Coming to campus in August and missing much of the preseason after playing for Australia in FIBA World Cup qualifier, the 18-year old has been among Duke's most consistent in February.
Duke's third leading scorer over the last 12 games (10.8), Proctor's offensive contributions are balanced by what the freshman has meant to Duke defensively.
His defensive metrics put him in the 92nd percentile nationally among all players -- opposing players are shooting just .303 from the field and .292 from three-point range when primarily defended by the Aussie.
This past week, he limited two of the ACC's most explosive guards in VT's Hunter Cattoor and Louisville's El Ellis to a combined nine points and 5-of-14 shooting when guarding them.
Cattoor scored just six points (ACC season low) on 2-of-4 shooting (season low in attempts) and 0-of-2 from three-point range (season low in attempts). Proctor forced two of his three turnovers.
The week prior, Proctor held Syracuse's Joe Girard to eight points on 2-of-4 shooting and did not yield a point to Notre Dame's Cormac Ryan, who was 0-of-4 when guarded by the freshman.
Proctor is 14th in the ACC in assist-turnover ratio for the season (1.78) and 10th in ACC play (1.88).
Bedeviled By Injuries
Duke has played just 14 games all season -- and just six over the last 15 -- with its full complement of scholarship players available. Duke has not lost in regulation in those games (13-1), including wins over Xavier, Iowa, Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Louisville and Virginia Tech.
Seven of Duke's losses have come in the 15 games that Blue Devils were injured during the game or did not play due to injury or illness.
Freshman Dariq Whitehead sustained a lower leg injury at Virginia Tech on Jan. 23 and missed four consecutive games.
Whitehead began the season on the injured list after sustaining a foot fracture in the preseason and missing the first three games. He  was held out of the loss at Wake Forest due to illness.
Classmate Dereck Lively II was also injured in the preseason (calf) -- missing the season opener -- also being held out at Wake (illness).
Junior Jeremy Roach sustained a toe injury on Nov. 27 vs. Purdue, played through the injury for three games before missing the game vs. UMES on Dec. 10. He returned for three more  games, then re-aggravated the injury at NC State and missed the next three.
Sophomore Jaylen Blakes sustained a broken nose in practice on Jan. 17 and has played since with a custom-fitted, 3-D printed mask.
Duke's Three-Point Streak
Duke has connected on at least one three-pointer in 1,182 straight games, the second-longest streak nationally.
It has been more than 30 years since Duke was held without a three-point field goal -- Dec. 30, 1989, versus Hawai'i.
