HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke scored the first points of the evening with a Tyrese Proctor three-pointer. Proctor's classmates, Mark Mitchell and Kyle Filipowski, both got into the box score with layups on each of the next two possessions to give the Blue Devils an early lead, 7-2.
- Syracuse used a quick seven-point run to take its first lead of the game, 13-9. A dunk by Dereck Lively II and five points from Dariq Whitehead re-established the Blue Devils' advantage, 16-15, with just over 10 minutes on the first-half clock.
- Duke made six straight shots from the field from beyond the arc and went up by double-digits for the first time, 33-21. A fast-break layup by Filipowski of a Whitehead steal on the next possession made it a 16-2 run over the last 3:33 of action for the Blue Devils and forced a Syracuse timeout with 3:31 left in the half.
- The three-point barrage continued out of the timeout, with Filipowski draining his first attempt of the night and Jeremy Roach used a layup to push Duke's lead to 19, 40-21, before Syracuse closed the half on a short scoring burst to make the score 40-27 in Duke's favor at halftime.
- Whitehead connected on his first three-pointer attempt of the second half, matching his career-high for most shots made from beyond the arc in a game this season. The deep ball pushed the freshman to 14 points and made it a 47-33 edge for the Blue Devils.
- A six-point run spanning just under two minutes by Duke extended the Blue Devils' lead to 16, 53-37, at the first media timeout of the second half.
- Filipowski's second three-pointer of the game with 9:01 remaining in the game pushed him into double-figures and gave the freshman his 12th double-double of the season. The Westtown, N.Y., native has scored in double-figures in 23 of Duke's 27 games so far this year.

- "They had a lot of fans here, it was very packed. We just had to create our own energy and coming out, that's what we did. We were making sure that we came out with our own energy, made sure that we talked to each other all game and it paid off." -- freshman guard Dariq Whitehead
