SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend tips-off on Friday, Feb. 17 and concludes with the 72nd NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 19 as five former Duke Basketball standouts have been selected to participate in Salt Lake City.
Duke became the first college all-time to have three former players voted in as All-Star Game starters with the selections of
Jayson Tatum,
Kyrie Irving and
Zion Williamson, while NBA rookies
Paolo Banchero and
AJ Griffin will participate in the Rising Stars mini-tournament.
Williamson, now a two-time All-Star, was voted as a starter for the first time in his career but is sitting out Sunday night's game due to injury. Tatum, making his fourth All-Star appearance and third straight as a starter is sixth in the NBA with 30.6 points per game. Eight-time All-Star and six-time starter Irving is averaging 27.2 points, 5.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds.
Duke's representation begins on Friday with the Rising Stars mini-tournament to include Griffin and Banchero at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
Saturday,
Banchero returns to action and kicks off State Farm All-Star Saturday Night as a member of Team Rooks in the Skills Challenge at 8 p.m. ET on TNT, while Tatum competes in the 3-Point Contest. Banchero, the 2022 overall No. 1 pick and leading candidate to be NBA Rookie of the Year, is averaging 19.9 and 6.6 rebounds, while Griffin is averaging 9.3 points and shooting .477 from the field and .394 from three.
Sunday's festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT, when the first All-Star Draft takes place live with the NBA All-Star Game tipping off at 8:30 p.m. ET, also on TNT.
