SEATTLE, Wash. – The fourth-ranked Duke women's tennis team rebounded in a big way on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Indoor Championship as the Blue Devils (9-1) defeated sixth-ranked Stanford, 4-3, at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash.
How It Happened
• After dropping the doubles point for the first time this season on Friday against Oklahoma, the Blue Devils came out like a different team in Saturday's contest against Stanford.
• On court three, Duke's
Emma Jackson and
Iuliia Bryzgalova suffered their first dual match loss a day ago, but were impressive versus the Cardinal's team of Sara Choy and Connie Ma. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead and got off the court quickly with a 6-1 victory.
• After dropping the first game on court two, Duke's No. 25 ranked
Ellie Coleman and
Karolina Berankova won three out of the next four games to take a 3-2 lead. Leading 4-3, Coleman/Berankova would win two straight games to clinch the crucial doubles point for Duke.
• Duke's 14th-ranked
Chloe Beck and
Cameron Morra were leading Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina, 4-3, when the point was clinched.
• In singles play, Stanford won the first set on four of the six courts, but Duke was able go ahead, 2-0, with a victory on court six. Bryzgalova never trailed against Choy totaling a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
• In the featured singles matchup with two top-five ranked players, Duke's No. 5 Beck never trailed against third-ranked Ma and notched a 6-4, 6-3 win to put the Blue Devils ahead, 3-0.
• The rest of the singles matches went to three sets, after Stanford won the first set on all four courts. Duke came back to win the second set on all six courts to help extend the match.
• With the Blue Devils leading, 3-0, Stanford was able to even the match with three straight wins.
• The Cardinal's 56th-ranked Blokhina registered a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 win over
Georgia Drummy on court four and Blake posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over No. 21 Jackson on court three.
• On court two, Duke's No. 28 ranked Morra battled back after dropping the first set, 6-2, to win the second, 6-3, against No. 41 ranked Yepifanova. Morra led, 5-3, late in the third set and had three match points, but eventually dropped the third, 7-5.
• The match all came down to court five with Duke's Coleman against 88th-ranked Xu. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Coleman came back and won the second, 6-3, including winning three very important deuce points. In the third set, Coleman never trailed winning 6-3.

Quotes
"Today was an amazing team effort. I'm really proud of the fight from everyone and happy that I was able to contribute in the big moment. The energy and support were awesome." -- Duke sophomore
Ellie Coleman
"I thought we showed a lot of improvement in one day, which is hard to do. We came out and played really solid doubles and then just a lot of resolve in the singles to be honest with you. We lost four first sets and then we won all six second sets, which is incredible. Across the board, we didn't let that deter what we were trying to do. We talked to the team before the match about -- in a match like this after losing yesterday is a lot about character and a lot about pride and they responded. We didn't know how they were going to respond, to be honest with you. We hadn't been in that situation all year and they did a great job with it. -- Duke head coach
Jamie Ashworth
"That was huge of Ellie. She didn't let the moment change what she was doing, which is what you need to do. She stayed steady, aggressive and served big. She did a great job of just staying focused and not letting the moment become the most important thing." -- Duke head coach
Jamie Ashworth on
Ellie Coleman clinching the match
"They played really well today. We talked about the communication in doubles after yesterday. We had to really focus on making sure that we communicate, be more disciplined and a little bit smarter. I think yesterday we played a little bit with deer in the headlights and look in our eyes. And I think today, across the board on all three courts, we came out and just played aggressive and played how we're capable of playing doubles." -- Duke head coach
