DURHAM – The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) held the 2024 Expansion Draft on Friday evening with former Duke standout Tess Boade picked with the No. 3 overall selection by Bay FC.
Bay FC is the first NWSL team in the Bay Area and will open the 2024 campaign in March. The team will play in PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif.
Boade, a 2021 Duke graduate, is coming off an impressive season with the NC Courage where she started 12-of-13 matches, had one goal and two assists. She led the Courage to a playoff appearance, while totaling a 9-7-6 record. In 2023, Boade logged 804 minutes in the regular season, completed 82.5 percent of passes and created 12 chances. Boade also added a goal and an assist during the Challenge Cup as she helped the Courage repeat as cup champions.
During her Duke career, she appeared in 93 matches and started 67, while totaling 22 goals, 15 assists and 59 points. Boade garnered 10 game-winning goals, which ranked tied for eighth on the Blue Devil career charts. She was a 2021 First Team All-ACC and United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team honoree.
