DURHAM – Duke's doubles pair of graduate students Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang advanced to the quarterfinal round at the 2023 ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Sunday at the Cary Tennis Park.

Heller and Zhang bested Peter Murphy and Logan Zapp of North Carolina, 8-6, in their round of 16 match to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. The duo next face eighth-seeded Lucas Andrade da Silva and Jelani Sarr of South Carolina in the quarterfinals on Monday.

Additionally on Sunday, sophomore Pedro Rodenas concluded his time at the tournament after falling in the singles main draw quarterfinal round. The Madrid, Spain, native defeated [17-24] Holden Koons of Wake Forest 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 16 but fell to Joesph Wayand of NC State in the quarterfinals 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Monday's event schedule will feature the singles semifinal matches at 10 a.m. followed by the doubles quarterfinal and semifinal matches. The doubles matches will not start before noon.
