DURHAM – Graduate offensive lineman Jacob Monkand redshirt sophomore linebacker Tre Freemanboth earned ACC Player of the Week honors following Duke's 24-3 victory over NC State.
Monk was selected as the ACC's Offensive Lineman of the Week, while Freeman garnered Co-Linebacker of the Week honors.
Monk, a Clayton, N.C., native led a Duke offense that registered 301 total yards on just 42 snaps – good for an average of 7.2 yards per play against a NC State defense which entered the week allowing just 5.3 yards per snap. He helped open holes for a rushing attack that amassed 194 yards on 30 attempts (6.5 per rush) against a Wolfpack defense that entered the week ranked third in the ACC in rush defense, surrendering just 97.0 yards per game on the ground. The unit also protected first-time starting quarterback Henry Belin IV, who averaged 26.75 yards per completion with two touchdowns. Monk graduated out at 93 percent and recorded seven knockdown blocks in the win.
Freeman registered a game-high and career-high 15 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and his first career interception. The interception and subsequent 24-yard return to the NC State eight-yard line, set up an eight-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Hasleyto extend Duke's lead to 17-3 with 11:36 left in the second quarter. Freeman helped lead a Duke defense which limited NC State to three total points, marking the fewest points scored by the Wolfpack since a 41-0 loss to Clemson on Oct. 4, 2014.
The ACC's other weekly honors included North Carolina's Drake Maye (quarterback), Omarion Hampton (running back), Devontez Walker (wide receiver) and Cedric Gray (co-linebacker), Virginia Tech's Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. (defensive lineman), Pitt's MJ Devonshire (defensive back) and Samuel Okunloa (rookie) and Florida State's Keon Coleman (special teams).
