DURHAM – After helping lead fifth-ranked Duke to a pair of victories over VCU and Wisconsin over the weekend during the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Blue Devil graduate student
Cameron Morra was tabbed the ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday.
A native of Rockville, Md., Morra went 2-0 in doubles helping lead Duke to collecting the doubles point in both matches. Teaming with
Chloe Beck, Duke's 13th-ranked duo improved to 17-3 on the season and 4-0 in dual match action.
Morra earned the first singles win on Sunday against Wisconsin, 6-4, 6-1, over 59th-ranked Maria Sholokhova and was leading, 6-0, 5-2, against Yelizaveta Karlova of VCU when the match was clinched on Saturday.
With the wins over the weekend, Duke advanced to the ITA National Team Indoors, which will be contested Feb. 10-13 in Seattle, Wash. It will mark the 30th time in school history the Blue Devils have played in the premier indoor event.
Over her career, Morra owns a 97-39 singles ledger and is three wins away from reaching the 100-win mark. She earned the ACC Player of the Week honor for the second time in her career as she received the distinction on April 5 of last year. Morra has notched weekly honors from the ACC a total of six times over her career as she was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week four times in 2019.
Duke will wrap up an eight-match homestand this weekend as the Blue Devils host Harvard on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 12 p.m., followed by a pair of matches on Sunday, Feb. 5 against Georgetown (2 p.m.) and NCCU (6:30 p.m.).
