DURHAM - The Duke volleyball team captured two wins Saturday to close out the Duke Invitational in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils defeated Northeastern, 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21), before sweeping East Carolina, 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-19).
MATCH 1 | NORTHEASTERN
How it Happened
- Senior outside hitter Gracie Johnson led the offense with 20 kills while Lizzie Fleming tallied 12 to hit an impressive .450 percent.
- Setter Devon Chang dished 46 assists while Madison Bryant added 12 digs. Rylie Kadel notched six blocks, while Fleming and Chang also added four.
- Rachel Richardson came out of the gate fast to open the first set with a .571 hitting percentage while Johnson tallied three aces in the opening frame.
- Both teams found their offensive grooves in the second with high-powered offensive percentages (Duke - .407, Northeastern - .393).
- Duke tallied eight blocks in the third to keep the Huskies at bay with a .097 hitting percentage before Johnson tallied nine kills in the fourth to grab the win.

- Duke improved to 3-2 in the early fall.
- It was head coach Jolene Nagel's 670th career victory and her 467th at Duke.
- Johnson and Kadel each registered four aces to tie Duke's season best of 12.
- The team hit .271 percent, including .407 percent in the second set.
- The match featured 30 tie scores and 15 lead changes.
- The Huskies were led by Nailah Jenkins and Erica Staunton with 11 kills apiece.
MATCH 2 | EAST CAROLINA
How it Happened
- Once again, Duke was led by Johnson with 12 kills, followed by Rachel Richardson and Fleming with nine each. Fleming played to a .571 clip.
- Chang dished 40 dimes while libero Nikki Underwood racked up a career-high 25 digs to pace the defense.
- Much like the morning match, Johnson came out with her tough serve and collected four aces quickly in the first.
- Duke's block came alive late in the second and at a crucial time. Tied up at 23, Fleming and Georgia Stavrinides connected on a huge block before Stavrinides and Kadel teamed up again to bring up set point (26-25).
- Johnson and Fleming combined for eight kills and just two errors in the third to spearhead a .300 hitting percentage to finish the match.

- Duke improved to 4-2 with its fourth-straight win.
- It was Nagel's 671st career victory and her 468th at the helm of the Blue Devils.
- Johnson tallied a career-high seven aces.
- The match featured 11 tie scores and only three lead changes.
- East Carolina was led by Angeles Alderete with 11 kills.
Next Match
Duke will make the short trip to take on Elon Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m., before hosting Michigan and Michigan State Sept. 9-10 in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
