CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Duke volleyball team dropped a five-set marathon, 3-2 (25-22, 12-25, 19-25, 25-21, 12-15), to Boston College Sunday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
How it Happened
- Three Blue Devils combined for 44 kills and were led by senior Gracie Johnson with 20, followed by sophomore Rylie Kadel's impressive performance with 12 kills and no errors to post a .632 hitting percentage.Â
- Johnson (14) and Devon Chang (10) led the way in digs as Chang also dished 45 assists. Freshman Kerry Keefe tallied a career-high seven blocks while Kadel added six.
- Duke weathered the storm in the first set to secure a come-from-behind victory (25-22). Trailing 19-16, Kadel and Johnson spearheaded the Blue Devils on both sides of the ball as Kadel knocked down two kills and a block and Johnson tallied an ace and two kills late in the set.
- The Eagles came out on fire in the second frame with a .625 hitting percentage with 15 kills and no errors to tie the match at one set apiece.
- The Blue Devils attempted to rally back from a five-point deficit (22-17) in the third, but couldn't hold off Alayna Crabtree's late rally. Despite dropping the set, Duke tallied four solo blocks with Kadel securing two.
- Needing to win the fourth set to extend the match, Duke hit .231 and was led by Johnson with six kills.
- The Eagles posted a .259 hitting percentage in the fifth and final set, and added four blocks, to keep the Blue Devils at bay.Â

- Duke fell to 9-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
- The Blue Devils move to 23-4 all-time against Boston College.
- Johnson's 20 kills were her sixth-career match with 20 or more kills.
- Johnson collected her 12th-career double-double with 20 kills and 14 digs.
- Johnson added four aces to lead the team.
- The Eagles were led by Katrina Jensen and Crabtree with 15 kills each.
Next Match
- Duke will host No. 10 Pittsburgh (Sept. 30) and Virginia (Oct. 2) in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The match against the Cavaliers will be on ACCN.
