DURHAM – The Duke volleyball program announced the addition of
Danny Altamar to the Blue Devil staff. Altamar will serve as the director of volleyball operations for the 2022 campaign.
"I cannot express how excited I am to be part of the Blue Devil family," Altamar said. "I'm incredibly grateful to head coach
Jolene Nagel, associate head coach
Kellie Catanach Johnson and assistant coach
Jeremy Garcia for this incredible opportunity to serve alongside them in leading this program to new heights. I also want to show appreciation to
Mitch Moser,
Meghan Weiseman and
Kaitlyn Purdy for trusting me to work as a pivotal member of Duke's athletic department. There is something special to be said about Duke University's history of providing a strong commitment to both academic and athletic success while creating the ultimate student-athlete experience. I cannot wait to get to work and look forward to seeing what the future holds for our program … GO DUKE!"
Altamar comes to Durham most recently from Sideout Sports in Fairfield, N.J., where he led operational and quality improvements for all programs in addition to executing daily activities from developing business strategy to customer service. He was also the director of volleyball operations at St. Francis College in Brooklyn where he led game day and practice preparations. At St. Francis, he was responsible for all team travel, directed all aspects of the teams' social media campaigns and developed successful marketing campaigns during COVID-19 to promote the achievements of student-athletes and the incoming class.
Altamar has also spent time with JBJ Events as an assistant tournament director and was the manager for the volleyball program at Saint Peters.
"We're delighted to have someone with Danny's experiences join our staff," head coach
Jolene Nagel said. "He has worked directly with volleyball throughout his high school and college careers and worked other jobs as well which make him a unique fit in his role. He has hit the ground running, providing great support for our team and staff. We look forward to benefiting from his efforts and experience this season."
Altamar earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami in August of 2022 and his undergraduate degree from Saint Peters.
Duke will open the 2022 season at the BYU Invitational Aug. 26-27 in Provo, Utah.
