DURHAM – No. 12 Duke men's soccer will wrap up the exhibition slate on Friday night, hosting Longwood at 7 p.m., in Koskinen Stadium.
Â
Friday night serves as the final free admission contest of the season before the regular season opens.
Â
Duke's matchup against the Lancers comes on the heels of a 3-0 win for the Blue Devils over High Point on Tuesday. The game against the Lancers serves as the final tune-up before the season-opening clash against San Diego on Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Â
Preseason Wrap-Up
- Duke has gone 1-0-1 in the first two games of the preseason, drawing 1-1 with South Carolina and defeating High Point, 3-0.
- Junior Peter Stroud and senior Scotty Taylor have been the goal scorers, with two apiece. Stroud picked up his first two-goal game in the college ranks against High Point on Tuesday.
- The defense has been stout in the early season, allowing just one goal over two games, with graduate student Eliot Hamill and sophomore Grant Farley combining for a shutout in net of High Point on two saves each.
Â
What to Watch For
- In the all-time regular season series, Duke holds a 1-0 record against Longwood. The team won the lone match up 3-1, back in 2005.
- Stroud was recently named to the ACC's Preseason Watch List. The Chester, N.J., native adds another preseason honor to his growing total, after being named a United Soccer Coaches Midfielder to Watch earlier this month.
- After being tabbed as the No. 12 team in the country by the United Soccer Coaches, the Blue Devils were also placed at No. 11 in the College Soccer News preseason poll.
- The Blue Devils are seeking their first undefeated preseason since 2014.
- With the win over High Point, Duke has opened the home slate much like the 2021 season, in which they went 7-2 in the regular season, with two additional victories in Koskinen Stadium during the ACC and NCAA Tournament's.
