DURHAM – Former Duke women's basketball standout Chelsea Gray helped lead the Las Vegas Aces to the 2022 WNBA Commissioner's Cup Tuesday evening, with a 93-83 win over the Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena.
Gray was tabbed the game's MVP after pouring in 19 points, dishing out five assists and snagging four rebounds in the championship game. She helped the Aces post a 9-1 mark in Commissioner Cup play, sweeping their series against the Dallas Wings, LA Sparks, Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury. The squad split its two matchups against the Seattle Storm.
Currently amid her eighth WNBA season, Gray is in her second year with the Aces. She is averaging 12.7 points, 6.1 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game this season. With three weeks remaining in the regular season, she has helped the team compile a 20-8 overall record – good for first in the Western Conference and second overall in the WNBA.
The Manteca, Calif., native was a highly decorated player whose college career was cut short due to injury. Prior to injury, Gray earned All-America honors her sophomore and junior seasons, and was named the ACC Co-Player of the Year for the 2012-13 season. She helped guide Duke to three ACC regular season titles (2011, 2012, 2013) and two ACC Tournament Championships (2011 and 2013). Gray finished her career as a Blue Devil ranked second on Duke's all-time career assists list and third on its all-time steals list.
