DURHAM, N.C. – For the 18th time in program history, the Duke volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization Monday.
First instituted in 1992, the AVCA Team Academic Award goes to collegiate and high school volleyball programs that maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.30 for the academic year.
Duke was one of nine schools to earn the honor in 2022, joining Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Five Blue Devils – Mackenzie Cole, Lizzie Fleming, Gracie Johnson, Ade Owokoniran and Alex Springate – earned All-ACC Academic Team distinction this year, while 13 members of the Duke volleyball team earned a spot on the 2021-22 ACC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 for the current academic year.
Duke opens the 2022 campaign Aug. 26 with the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah.
