TORONTO, Ont., Canada – Duke women's basketball sophomore guard
Shayeann Day-Wilson and the Canadian U23 Women's National Team captured the gold medal at the inaugural GLOBLJAM international basketball showcase with a 78-60 over France Sunday afternoon Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Day-Wilson poured in a game-high 19 points in the championship game, adding nine assists, two rebounds and two steals as well. The Toronto native was stellar through five games this week as she averaged 16 points, 5.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game, while helping lead Canada to a perfect 5-0 record.
Canada opened round-robin play Tuesday with a 65-53 victory over Belgium, then followed with wins over the United States (78-69) and France (73-56) Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. They matched up with the U.S. once more in Saturday's semifinal round, punching their ticket to the championship with a dominating 85-60 win.
