DURHAM – The Duke women's tennis team featured a total of six players in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, as the organization released its final rankings of the 2021-22 campaign following the conclusion of the NCAA Division I Women's Singles and Doubles Championships this past weekend.
Junior
Chloe Beck leads the way for the fourth-ranked Blue Devils at No. 8, followed by senior
Georgia Drummy who sits in 13th. Classmate
Kelly Chen climbed 13 spots in the end-of-season poll, checking in at No. 93.
Beck led the team in singles wins and finished a stellar junior campaign with an overall record of 34-11. She finished the regular season with an 18-0 mark and 13-0 record in ACC play, making her the first Duke player since 2018 to finish conference play undefeated. Beck posted 12 wins over ranked opponents, including a pair of top-10 wins over then-No. 7 Irina Cantos (Ohio State) and then-No. 4 Cameron Morra (UNC).
Drummy ended the 2021-22 campaign on an eight-match win streak and finished with a 24-10 ledger. The Dublin, Ireland native notched wins over 15 ranked opponents, including top-10 victories over then-No. 6 Irina Cantos Siemers (Ohio State) and then-No. 4 Daria Frayman (Princeton).
Chen closes the door on an outstanding Duke career ranked sixth all-time on the career-singles list (134-48) and fifth all-time in total victories with a 222-93 record. A winner of her last six matches, Chen registered a team-best six match-clinching points, including ones in the season finale against No. 1 UNC, the ACC semifinal match vs. Miami, and NC State in the NCAA Quarterfinal.
Sophomore
Karolina Berankova and Drummy finished the season as Duke's highest-ranked doubles pairing at No. 14. The tandem of Beck and freshman
Ellie Coleman leapt 14 spots from its previous ranking to finish the year 35th, while Chen and graduate student
Eliza Omirou round out the doubles rankings at No. 88.
Primarily playing at No. 2 doubles, Beck and Coleman formed a potent doubles pairing, going 11-4 in dual match play and 7-0 in the ACC. Berankova and Drummy also had a solid season at No. 1 doubles, scoring a pair of top-10 wins over then-No. 8 Emma Navarro / Hibah Shaikh (UVA) and top-ranked Jaeda Daniel / Nell Miller (NC State).
