DURHAM – Duke women's soccer senior
Ruthie Jones was named to the 21-player roster for the United States U-23 Women's Youth National Team that will travel to Sweden. Jones and the rest of the squad will travel to Sweden and compete in friendlies against India and Sweden in the Women's U-23 Three-Nations Tournament.
The USA will take on India on June 25 in Helsingborg to open competition. It will mark the first match between a U.S. Women's National Team and India, who is the host of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in October. The USA will face Sweden on June 28 in Vittsjo. Australia was scheduled to participate in this tournament but withdrew, making it a three-team competition.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Jones will compete with the U-23 national team for the second time over the last three months as she also participated in the Thorns Preseason Tournament in March. She collected five saves and allowed only one goal in 180 minutes of action with the USA.
A first-team All-ACC pick in 2021, Jones solidified herself as one of the nation's top goalkeepers this past season. She recorded 46 saves with a .793 save percentage, while allowing just 12 goals for an ACC-best 0.59 goals against average. Jones registered nine complete-game shutouts, including four against ranked opponents, tying for the most in the conference. Jones also earned TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI First Team honors and was a second-team All-Atlantic Region selection by United Soccer Coaches. Prior to coming to Duke in 2019, she was a member of the U.S. Youth National Team pool, helping lead the U-15 squad to a Concacaf championship before making appearances with the U-17 team.
