Georgia Drummy will represent Duke at the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Individual Championships as the trio earned at-large bids to the tournament, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Beck and Drummy garnered invitations to compete in the singles championships, with both players earning top-16 seeds in the singles draw. The tandem of Berankova and Drummy will represent the Blue Devils in doubles competition.
Singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 20-22. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will serve as host.
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
Beck received her second overall at-large bid to the individual championships and makes her first appearance in the singles bracket following a stellar junior campaign. Beck has been a mainstay in the ITA polls and has led the team in the singles rankings throughout the year, currently checking in at No. 10. The Watkinsville, Ga., native owns a 19-2 ledger this season that features seven wins over ranked opponents. Beck completed conference play with a 13-0 mark, making her the first Blue Devil player since 2018 to go undefeated in ACC play.
Drummy will see action in her second straight NCAA Singles Championship. The Dublin, Ireland native has also been featured in the ITA singles poll throughout the season, navigating the leaderboard into her current ranking of 15th. Drummy holds a 13-6 mark and has registered wins in four consecutive matches, including her last two over ranked opponents.
Berankova and Drummy are currently ranked 20th on the ITA doubles list, jumping 11 spots from last week's ranking. The pair has formed a formidable doubles pairing for the Blue Devils, registering a 10-11 overall record and 6-8 dual match mark. Most recently in the ACC Championship match, the Duke tandem battled past Virginia's No. 8 duo of Emma Navarro and Hibah Shaikh, 7-6 (3), in a back-and-forth match. The win gave Duke a 1-0 lead and momentum heading into singles play, where the Blue Devils went on to win three of four singles courts to claim the 4-1 win.
On Monday, the NCAA announced Duke as the No. 3 overall seed after for the 2022 NCAA Team Championships. The Blue Devils will host the first and second rounds, opening tournament action Friday at 4 p.m. against Quinnipiac.
