DURHAM – After helping the Blue Devils to a momentous win this past weekend, Duke women's tennis junior
Chloe Beck was tabbed the ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Beck went 2-0 in Friday's season finale against No. 1 North Carolina, helping the ninth-ranked Blue Devils hand the Tar Heels their first loss of the season, while locking up the second seed in this week's ACC Women's Tennis Championship. In singles play, the ninth-ranked junior earned her sixth victory over a ranked opponent this season and third win from the top slot as she defeated No. 4 Cameron Morra 6-1,6-4. With the win, the Watkinsville, Ga., native concluded the regular season with an unblemished 18-0 overall record (13-0 in ACC) and became the first Blue Devil to go undefeated in conference action since teammate
Kelly Chen in 2018.
In doubles action, Beck and teammate
Ellie Coleman battled back from an early 3-1 deficit to win five consecutive games and take down the 26th-ranked doubles pairing of Morra and Alle Sanford.
Duke (16-3, 11-2 ACC) received a double bye into the quarterfinal round of the ACC Women's Tennis Championship and will play the winner of the match between seventh-seeded Wake Forest and 10th-seeded Syracuse on Friday at 6 p.m. All matches will take place at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Ga.
