DURHAM – Women's golf sophomore
Phoebe Brinker has been named Duke's PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Week, following her first collegiate victory at the ACC Championship held at The Reserve Golf Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.
Brinker became the 15th different Blue Devil in school history to win an ACC Championship, after carding a 54-hole ledger of 10-under-par, 206, over 54 holes. Her winning score matched the Duke ACC Championship record of former teammate
Gina Kim from just a year ago.
The Wilmington, Del., native collected rounds of 70, 65, and 71 for a 10-under, 206, finishing six strokes ahead of teammate
Erica Shepherd. The pair were two of only three golfers on the final day to shoot under par. Brinker's second round of 7-under, 65, matched the ACC record for lowest 18-hole score in championship history.
Brinker hit 37-of-42 fairways and 46-of-54 greens during the stroke play portion of the event.
Duke concluded its ACC Championship slate on Saturday with a semifinal loss in match play and awaits the NCAA Regional Selection show on Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m.
