GREENSBORO, N.C. – The league office released the 2021-22 Women's Basketball All-ACC Academic Team on Tuesday with a trio of Blue Devils --
Onome Akinbode-James,
Miela Goodchild and
Celeste Taylor -- earning honors.
Duke has received at least one selection on the All-ACC Academic Team in each of the 24 years since the ACC started honoring the student-athletes.
As a senior, Akinbode-James started 19 of her 30 games played, while averaging 4.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots. She ranked 15th in the ACC in blocks per game. A native of Abeokuta, Nigeria, Akinbode-James had a season-high 16 points on the road at Syracuse as she hit 5-of-9 field goals and drained all six free throw attempts. She grabbed a season-high nine rebounds on three different occasions. Akinbode-James earned the honor for the first time in her career.
Receiving All-ACC Academic Team accolades for the third time in her career, Goodchild appeared in 29 contests and made 12 starts as a senior. She averaged 6.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Goodchild, who hails from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, drained 44 three-pointers and hit 35.8 percent from downtown on the season. Goodchild concluded her career with 170 made 3-pointers to rank tied for eighth on Duke's all-time charts.
After transferring into Duke heading into the 2021-22 campaign, Taylor made an immediate impact on the Blue Devil squad averaging 11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals. She started 22-of-23 games played, while missing seven contests due to injury. Taylor drained 24 three-pointers and scored double-digits in five of her final six games this season.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
