DURHAM – Freshman
Emma Jackson has been tabbed the ACC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, following a stellar performance through a pair of conference matches this past weekend.
The 53rd-ranked rookie is the Blue Devils' second consecutive ACC Freshman of the Week recipient and the third player overall to earn a conference weekly honor, joining classmate
Ellie Coleman (March 1) and 19th-ranked senior
Georgia Drummy (Jan. 25).
Jackson registered an unblemished 3-0 mark to help lead No. 9 Duke to wins over No. 12 Virginia (4-3) and Virginia Tech (7-0), improving the team's record to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in ACC play.
Playing in flight four, Jackson scored a three-set decision to help lead No. 9 Duke to a 4-3, come-from-behind victory over the 12th-ranked Cavaliers Friday night. She won her matchup with Virginia's Amber O'Dell (6-1, 2-6, 6-1) to clinch the win.
In Sunday's sweep of Virginia Tech (7-0), Jackson teamed up with doubles partner
Chloe Beck for a 7-6(2) win over Erika Cheng and Rita Pinto. She faced Cheng again in singles action and went on to claim a 6-7 (4), 6-1, 1-0 decision.
The Blue Devils will be off for a week, before embarking on a span of three matches in six days, beginning with a pair of ACC contests against Boston College (March 18) and Syracuse (March 20).
