Garrett Johns has been selected the ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week following his impressive performance last week.
Johns clinched the 18th-ranked Blue Devils' win over No. 17 North Carolina last Wednesday with a thrilling 7-6 (2), 6-7 (4), 6-3 win over No. 22 Brian Cernoch at the top singles position. The win was Duke's first against the Tar Heels since 2014. Johns then finished the week with a victory over Boston College on Friday to help Duke to its fifth-straight win.
The Atlanta, Ga., native currently sits with a 9-4 dual singles record, including a 5-3 mark over ranked opponents. He is riding a three-match winning streak and is 7-2 in his last 10 matches.
The Blue Devils welcome Notre Dame and Louisville on Friday and Sunday, respectively, for two additional ACC contests. Duke will face off against the Fighting Irish at 4 p.m. on Friday before meeting up with the Cardinals at 12 p.m. on Sunday. All matches are scheduled to be played at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
