DURHAM – No. 14 Duke women's tennis freshman
Ellie Coleman was named the ACC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Coleman posted a 3-1 record in dual match play over the weekend that saw the Blue Devils collect wins over Louisville (6-1) and Notre Dame (5-2) to open ACC play undefeated.
In the conference opener against the Cardinals, Coleman and graduate student
Eliza Omirou clinched the doubles point for Duke as the pair defeated Chelsea Sawyer and Dina Chaika, 6-4. The rookie also clinched match point via a win over Tyra Richardson in straight sets (6-4, 6-2).
Against the Fighting Irish, Coleman and Omirou once again came through for the 14th-ranked Blue Devils in doubles play. With the doubles point on the line, the duo rallied from an early deficit to score a 7-6 (5) win over Nibedita Ghosh and Julia Andreach.
No. 14 Duke continues ACC play as it opens a five-game homestand with matches against No. 9 Virginia (March 4) and Virginia Tech (March 6). The Blue Devils square off against the Cavaliers Friday at 6:30 p.m., then face the Hokies in a Sunday morning tilt slated for 10:30 a.m.
