THE OPENING TIP
- Fresh off a thrilling, 72-58, victory at No. 6 NC State, the Duke women's basketball team returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium to ring in the new year with a New Year's Day matinee against Louisville at 12 p.m.
- Tom Werme and Tabitha Turner will call the action on RSN/Bally Sports while Chris Edwards calls the game on the radio on the Blue Devil Sports Network from Learfield.
- Currently riding a seven-game win streak, the Blue Devils' 12 wins in 13 games is the team's best start to the season since the 2016-17 campaign.
- Duke is the only team this season to shoot 100 percent from the charity stripe and 64 percent or higher from beyond the arc in the same game, according to HerHoopStats. The Blue Devils cashed in nine of their 14 three-point attempts and went 15-of-15 from the foul line in their win over the Wolfpack on Thursday night.
- Defense has been the calling card for the Blue Devils this season as the team has won each of their games by an average of 26.2 points and held each of their opponents below their season scoring average, including eight of the 13 to 50 points or less.
- Duke has held its foes to 49.8 points per game on 32.1 percent shooting from the floor, marks that currently rank third and fourth in the NCAA, respectively, as well as first in the ACC (as of 12.30.22).
- Duke is currently ranked No. 7 in the 2022-23 NCAA NET Rankings. The Blue Devils' Strength of Schedule (SOS) also ranks 18th nationally and second in the ACC.
- Redshirt junior Jordyn Oliver is No. 3 nationally and first in the ACC with a 3.54 assist-to-turnover ratio (as of 12.30.22) -- 46 assists, 13 turnovers (3.54 apg).
- The Blue Devils have received a huge lift from its reserves, averaging 30.7 points off the bench.
- Sunday's tilt will be the 11th all-time meeting between Duke and Louisville, with the Cardinals leading the series 7-3.
- In their lone meeting last season, the fourth-ranked Cardinals tallied a 12-point victory (77-65) over the 21st-ranked Blue Devils.
- Duke's last win against Louisville occurred on Jan. 2, 2017 -- #13/17 Duke 58, #8/8 Louisville 55.
SHARING THE WEALTH
- Duke's starting five of senior Elizabeth Balogun, junior Kennedy Brown, sophomores Shayeann Day-Wilson and Reigan Richardson and senior Celeste Taylor have provided a steady hand for the Blue Devils this season, combining for 63.8 percent (45.8 points) of the team's 71.8 points per game.
- Taylor has reached double digits in nine of the 13 games this season followed by Balogun's and Brown's seven. Day-Wilson and Richardson have each tallied five double-figure scoring games
- Taylor leads the offensive charge for Duke, averaging 12.2 points per game with Balogun (10.2) and Brown (9.2) right behind in second and third. Day-Wilson and Richardson round out the group with 7.4 and 6.8 points a contest, respectively.
- Duke's depth has been on full display as the Blue Devils have featured seven different leading scorers through 13 games this season, with Balogun (4) and Taylor (3) finishing with the team high on multiple occasions.
- Compared to teams ranked in the top 25 of the NET Rankings, the seven different leading scorers is tied for second with Stanford -- only NC State has featured more (8).
- The squad features 11 players averaging at least 13 minutes per game with four of them averaging 20-plus minutes a contest -- Taylor (26.7), Brown (23.3), Day-Wilson (22.5) and Balogun (20.0).
- As a team, Duke ranks fourth in the ACC in field goal percentage (.453) and has assisted on 219 of its 356 made field goals (.615) for an average of 16.8 dimes per game -- No. 2 in the ACC.
- The Blue Devils are also second in the league in free throw percentage (.765), third in scoring margin (+22.00) as well as fourth in turnover margin (+4.23) and assist/turnover ratio (1.11).
DISRUPTING THE PEACE – ELITE BLUE DEVIL DEFENSE
- Disruptive defense has been the calling card for the Blue Devils early in the season as the team ranks among the nation's elite, having held its opponents to 49.8 points per game on a 32.1 percent clip from the field.
- Those marks check in at third and fourth in the NCAA, respectively, while ranking first in the ACC (as of 12.30.22).
- Duke is also slotted seventh in Defensive Rating, allowing its opponents just 0.632 points per possession.
- The Blue Devils have won each of their games by an average of 26.2 points and held each of their opponents below their season scoring average, including eight of the 13 to 50 points or less.
- In the win over NC State on Thursday, Duke held the Wolfpack 13.6 percent below their season field goal percentage of .480, 22 points below its season average (80.3 ppg) as well as its lowest scoring output of the season (58 points).
- In addition to leading the league in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense, the Blue Devils are second in the ACC in defensive rebounding percentage (.749), tied for third in rebounding defense (31.38) and blocked shots (5.08), fourth in three-point defense (.261) and fifth in steals (9.85)
LAST TIME OUT
- Celeste Taylor poured in a season-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help the Duke women's basketball team take down No. 6 NC State in a thrilling, 72-58, victory Thursday night in front of a sold out, raucous crowd at Reynolds Coliseum.
- Taylor shot 50 percent from the field and drilled five of her six treys, also going 4-of-4 at the free throw line.
- Elizabeth Balogun also had a strong performance for the Blue Devils (12-1, 2-0 ACC) as the senior tallied 16 points on 100-percent shooting, to go along with seven boards and three blocks.
- Kennedy Brown and Shayeann Day-Wilson each added 10 points apiece to round out the double-figure scoring for Duke.
- Brown added five rebounds and a pair of blocks to her stat line while Day-Wilson dished out a team-high seven dimes with no turnovers.

HEATING UP FROM DISTANCE
- After a slow start from downtown to open the season, the Blue Devils have settled in and begun to find their stroke from three-point land.
- Over its last five games, Duke has knocked down its treys at a 44-percent clip compared to just 22.4 percent from deep through the first eight games of the season.
- Celeste Taylor has led the charge with 10 treys during this stretch, followed by Vanessa de Jesus with six triples. The trio of Elizabeth Balogun, Shayeann Day-Wilson and Ashlon Jackson have cashed in five threes each.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
- Louisville enters Sunday's game at 11-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
- Winners of their last six, the Cardinals are coming off an 86-77 victory over Syracuse.
- Hailey Van Lith leads Louisville in scoring (20.1) and assists (3.5) while also ranking second with 5.6 rebounds per contest. The Cardinals also feature two more double-figure scorers in Chrislyn Carr (11.3) and Morgan Jones (10.5).
- Olivia Cochran leads the squad with 7.3 rebounds per game, while also chipping in 9.5 points per game.
