Opening Tip
- No. 8 Duke opens the Phil Knight Legacy on Thursday afternoon, battling Oregon State at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Ore.
- Doug Sherman and Cory Alexander have the call for ESPN, while David Shumate and John Roth call the game on the radio as a part of the Blue Devils Sports Network from Learfield.
- The Blue Devils are five years removed from winning the inaugural Phil Knight event in the Portland -- the PK80 -- beating Portland State, Texas and Florida to claim the title.
- Following Thursday's game, Duke will face either Florida or Xavier on Friday, with a match-up on Sunday against Gonzaga, Portland State, Purdue or West Virginia.

- Filipowski is third nationally in double-doubles (three) and 11th in total rebounds (52).
- In total, Duke has 11 newcomers on the roster -- seven freshmen -- all recruited and signed by Scheyer which comprise the nation's No. 1 recruiting class, and four graduate transfers.
- Two of the newcomers -- Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead -- have returned from preseason injuries that held them out for significant time. Lively (calf) returned four games ago and is 7-of-10 from the field, while Whitehead (foot fracture) made his debut vs. Delaware.

About Oregon State
- The basketball history between Duke and Oregon State includes just a pair of neutral site meetings in 1953 and 1963 -- each won by the Blue Devils.  Â
- Duke is 34-22 all-time versus current Pac 12 teams, having played every team in the conference at least once except Washington State.
- At 3-1 to start the year, the Beavers have already matched their win total from last season (3-28).
- Wayne Tinkle is in his ninth season at OSU's head coach. He added Eric Reveno as associate head coach this year after Reveno spent six seasons on the staff at Georgia Tech.

Duke Wins PK80 Motion Bracket in 2017-18
- In the inaugural college basketball event in Portland, Ore., to celebrate the 80th birthday of Nike co-founder Phil Knight, Duke claimed the PK80 title in 2017-18. That year, the Blue Devils beat Portland State, 99-81, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and Texas, 85-78 (ot), and Florida, 87-84, at Moda Center to win the eight-team Motion Bracket.
- Motion Bracket MVP Marvin Bagley III poured in 30 points with 15 rebounds in the title game win over Florida, as Duke rallied from down as many as 17 points in the second half.
- The semifinal win over Texas saw the Blue Devils close regulation on a 15-2 run to force overtime, keyed by Bagley's 34 points and 15 boards.
Board Work: Duke Ranks Top-10 in Rebounding, Rebound Margin and Offensive Rebounds
- Duke has been among the nation's best rebounding teams through the season's first two weeks, ranking ninth nationally in rebounding average (45.2), third in rebounding margin (+17.8) and fifth in offensive rebounding average (16.8).
- The Blue Devils have out-rebounded each of their first five opponents by double-digit margins -- matching the program record for longest such streak (at any point in a season). It happened previously in 2017-18, 1998-98, in 1962-63 and 1960-61.
- Since the start of the 2020-21 season, Duke is 36-5 when out-rebounding its opponent.
- Offensive rebounding has been a significant strength, with Duke totaling 20+ on the offensive glass twice already -- the Blue Devils hadn't had more than 19 offensive boards in any game over each of the last two seasons.

Blue Devils Allowing 53.2 Points -- 10th Nationally in Scoring Defense
- Duke leads the ACC and is 10th nationally in scoring defense, yielding just 53.2 points through five games. Each of the first five opponents have yet to top 70 points, while four have not scored more than 60.Â
- Duke's 266 points allowed through five games are its second fewest through the first four games of a season in the AP Poll era (since 1948-49) – the 1948-49 team yielded just 232 points through five games.Â
- Of Duke's 10 halves played, the Blue Devils have held the opposition to less than 30 points six times and to less than 25 points five times.
- The Blue Devils are 11th nationally in three-point defense (23.1) and 20th nationally in scoring margin (+23.8).
Finally Back to Full Strength
- Duke practiced for much of the preseason without the services of its top-two ranked freshmen in Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead.
- Lively, the No. 1 ranked incoming freshman, made his debut against USC Upstate after missing the exhibition and first game with a calf injury sustained in practice. He hit both of his shots (two dunks) with two blocks and two rebounds in 14 minutes vs. Upstate. Against Kansas, Lively came off the bench and played 21 minutes with two more field (both dunks) with five boards and a block. He made his first start vs. Delaware with two more dunks and a career-high four assists.
- Whitehead, the No. 2 ranked incoming freshman, made his debut in the Delaware win, playing 15 minutes with six points, two rebounds and two steals. Whitehead underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his right foot on Aug. 30.
Two-Time ACC Rookie of the Week Fills It Up
- Freshman Kyle Filipowski became Duke's first freshman all-time to open a career with three consecutive double-doubles as he scored a career-high 17 points with a career-high 14 rebounds in 33 minutes vs. Kansas last Tuesday.
- Although snapping his double-doubles streak two games ago, Filipowski enters the PKL with consecutive games scoring a career-high 18 points with eight rebounds.
- He has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week in each of the season's first two weeks. Over the last 155 weeks (since 2013-14), Duke has had the ACC Rookie of the Week 76 times (49%).
- The Westtown, N.Y., native was one of just four Duke freshman all-time with a double-double in a season opener, and one of just two (Marvin Bagley III in 2017-18) with consecutive double-doubles to open a career.
- Through Nov. 21's game, he is the only freshman nationally with three double-doubles and his three double-doubles are second most nationally.
- He has led Duke in scoring in four consecutive games, averaging 17.0 points in that stretch.
Duke's Three-Point Streak
- Duke has connected on at least one three-pointer in 1,158 straight games, the second-longest streak nationally.
- It has been more than 30 years since Duke was held without a three-point field goal -- Dec. 30, 1989, versus Hawai'i.
