Fresh off a season-opening win on Monday night, No. 7 Duke welcomes USC Upstate to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday evening.
The game tips at 6:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network with Dalen Cuff and Paul Biancardi on the call. On the radio, David Shumate and John Roth call the action on the Blue Devil Sports Network from Learfield.
The Blue Devils ushered in the Jon Scheyer era by beating Jacksonville, 71-44, on Monday thanks to four in double-figure points. Freshman Mark Mitchell scored a game-high 18 and classmate Kyle Filipowski recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Scheyer, a 2010 Duke graduate and four-year letterwinner for the Blue Devils who spent the previous nine years on the staff under Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski, is in his first season as the Blue Devils' head coach.
The 35-year-old Scheyer is among the youngest head coaches in D-I men's basketball, and the youngest at a power conference institution. He was named to The Athletic's 40 Under 40 in college sports in 2022, and was previously touted as one of the best assistant coaches in college basketball.Â
Junior guard Jeremy Roach, a preseason first-team All-ACC pick and a member of the watch list for the Cousy Award, returns after helping lead Duke to the Final Four, an ACC regular-season title and a 32-7 mark last season.
Roach, who scored 16 on 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range in Monday's win, averaged 8.6 points last season, but upped that to 11.8 points and 3.0 assists in Duke's five-game run to the Final Four as he was named to the West Region All-Tournament Team.
Roach is the Blue Devils' lone captain for 2022-23.
In total, Duke has 11 newcomers on the roster -- seven freshmen -- all recruited and signed by Scheyer which comprise the nation's No. 1 recruiting class, and four graduate transfers.
Friday's opponent, USC Upstate, is 1-0 after a season-opening 90-42 win over Brevard. Sophomore Jordan Gainey was last year's Big South Freshman of the Year.
Following Friday's game, Duke faces No. 5 Kansas on Tuesday in the State Farm Champions Classic in Indianapolis. The game tips at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Duke and Kansas comprised half of last season's Final Four in New Orleans with the Jayhawks winning the 2022 title.
 About USC Upstate

Upstate opened the season with a 90-42 win over Brevard on Tuesday, with five Spartans in double figures.
Dave Dickerson enters his fifth season as Upstate's head coach and his 10th overall as a head coach after serving at Tulane from 2005-10. His overall career mark is 107-165.

Upstate returns nearly 60 percent of the team's minutes and 52 percent of the team's scoring from last season.

 On This Date
Duke is 5-1 all-time when playing on November 11 and has won five straight.
The Blue Devils last played on this date in 2018 -- a 94-72 win over Army West Point at Cameron Indoor.
The win over Utah Valley on this date in 2017 marked the 1,000th Duke win for former head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Scheyer Enters First Season as Head Coach
Former Duke All-American and two-time team captain Jon Scheyer is the 20th head coach in Duke's storied basketball history. He was named to the position on June 4, 2021, succeeding Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski, who announced in June 2021 his plan to retire from coaching following the 2021-22 season.
The 35-year-old Scheyer is among the youngest head coaches in Division-I men's basketball, and the youngest at a power conference institution. He was named to The Athletic's 40 Under 40 in college sports in 2022, and was previously touted as one of the best assistant coaches in college basketball.
He has vast experience on the Duke bench, having served on Krzyzewski's staff since the 2013-14 season. His previous roles with the Blue Devils include special assistant, assistant coach and the previous three years as associate head coach.
As a player, Scheyer sparked the Blue Devils to two ACC championships and the 2010 NCAA title as a player from 2007- 10. In his time on the coaching staff, he helped Duke compile a 245-71 (.775) record, a national championship (2015), two Final Fours (2015, 2022) and two ACC Tournament crowns (2017, 2019).
The Northbrook, Ill., native has been integral in the recruiting and development of several young Duke stars since joining the staff, and landed the nation's No. 1-ranked recruiting class for the 2022-23 campaign.
Duke has signed a top-three recruiting class per ESPN in every season since Scheyer joined the staff, including the No. 1 class five times in nine seasons (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022).
Among Scheyer's personnel moves in June were the hiring of Jai Lucas as an assistant coach and the promotion of Amile Jefferson to assistant coach. Scheyer also added Mike Schrage as special assistant to the head coach and Rachel Baker as general manager.
 Season Opening Notes
Duke out rebounded Jacksonville 44-25, including a 16-7 edge on the offensive glass. The Dolphins were the nation's 11th-best rebounding team last season and were out-rebounded just twice in 2021-22 -- by one to Southern Miss (34-33) and by two to Pitt (37-35).
Of the 11 Blue Devils that saw action, 10 had at least one rebound.
Duke limited Jacksonville to just 18 points in the second half. The Dolphins shot .340 (18-of-53) from the field and .130 (3-of-23) from three-point range.
Four players scored in double figures, led by Mitchell's game-high 18 points.
Filipowski recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, to go with three assists and two blocks. He is just the fourth Duke freshmen to record a double-double in a season opener.
Junior Jeremy Roach scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. He was one three-pointer shy of matching his career high, and his 16 points matched his third highest scoring career game.
Young finished with 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting with seven rebounds (a game-high five offensive) with a game-high three steals and two assists.
 Red Hot Ryan
Graduate Ryan Young has started both the exhibition and season opener for Duke, and the Stewartsville, N.J., native is 11-of-12 from the field in those two games, totaling 24 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Young, who graduated from Northwestern where he played under former Blue Devil Chris Collins, matched his career high with three steals in Monday's win over Jacksonville.
 Duke's Three-Point Streak
Duke has connected on at least one three-pointer in 1,154 straight games, the second-longest streak nationally.
It has been more than 30 years since Duke was held without a three-point field goal -- Dec. 30, 1989, versus Hawai'i.
