DURHAM ā Duke University women's golf incoming freshman Andie Smith has been tabbed the Palm Beach Girls Golfer of the Year for 2021 as announced by the Sun Sentinel. Ā
This fall, Smith carded back-to-back rounds of 69 to win the FHSAA Class 4-1A State Championship by two strokes, becoming the first golfer to win the district championship, regional championship and state championship in the same season. Ā
In the FHSAA Region 4-1A Championship at Crandon Park, she carded a six-under, 66, to win the title.Ā She won the district championship in a three-hole sudden-death playoff, after carding a 72.Ā Smith, who is from Hobie Sound, Fla., helped lead The Benjamin School to the district championship, runner-up at the regional championships and a top-7 finish at the state championship as a team.Ā Ā Ā
The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) honored Smith in December with the USGA-AJGA Presidents' Leadership Award.Ā The award is presented to one male and one female junior golfer annually who demonstrate leadership, character and community service through their involvement with the Leadership Links program: a joint initiative founded by the USGA and AJGA in 2005 to further develop junior golfers through volunteerism.
In addition, Smith recently placed fourth at the Dixie Amateur with rounds of 72, 72, 70 and 68 for a 2-under, 282. Ā
