DURHAM — After helping USA Basketball capture gold at the Tokyo Olympics this past summer, Duke women's basketball alumna Chelsea Gray is set to attend the 2022 USA Basketball Women's National Team training camp from Feb. 5-7 in Washington, D.C.
Following the training camp, 12 athletes will remain to compete in the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament from Feb. 10-12 against Belgium and Puerto Rico at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
Along with Gray, expected training camp attendees include Ariel Atkins, Elena Delle Donne, Stephanie Dolson, Allisha Gray, Dearica Hamby, Natasha Howard, Sabrina Ionescu, Brionna Jones, Betnijah Laney, Jewell Loyd, Kayla McBride, Angel McCoughtry, Kelsey Mitchell, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart and Alyssa Thomas.
Puerto Rico will play Belgium on Feb. 10, while the Feb. 11 contest features the USA against Belgium. The tournament concludes with a USA versus Puerto Rico clash on Feb. 12. At the 2020 Olympics, Gray averaged 7.3 points, 3.2 assists and 1.7 rebounds for USA Basketball. She scored a tournament-best 14 points in the semifinals against Serbia, while scoring six points and dishing four assists in the gold medal contest versus Japan.
This past year with the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA, Gray averaged 11.1 points, 5.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals. She ranked fourth in the league in assists, while also ranking in the top-20 in field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and steals.
Cheryl Reeve will serve as the USA Basketball head coach from 2021-24.
