Drummy Earns ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

DURHAM – Following a strong performance over the weekend, Duke women's tennis senior Georgia Drummy has been named the ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Drummy, the 73rd-ranked singles player in the country, aided the No. 6 Blue Devils to an unblemished mark in their home-opening weekend that featured wins over No. 10 Ohio State and No. 23 Princeton. She went 2-0 in the No. 1 spot in singles and posted wins over two top-10 opponents – No. 6 Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State (7-6 (5), 6-4) and Princeton's fourth-ranked Daria Frayman (6-3, 6-2).
The Dublin, Ireland native's win over Frayman Sunday afternoon tied the overall score at 2-2, shifting the momentum in Duke's favor, and was the first of three straight victories for the Blue Devils en route to clinching the match, 4-2.
Drummy also played in the No. 3 doubles slot alongside sophomore Karolina Berankova, with the pair posting a 6-1 victory over Princeton's Victoria Hu/Leena Bennetto to earn Duke's lone doubles win of the match.
Duke women's tennis resumes competition this weekend as the Blue Devils host ITA Kickoff Weekend, starting with a matchup against Nebraska on Jan. 29 at 10 a.m.
