DURHAM – The Duke women's golf program will once again have a heavy influence on the LPGA as the tour opens the 2022 season this month in Florida. The Blue Devils will have six former golfers on the tour with
Ana Belac, Celine Boutier,
Gina Kim, Brittany Lang, Yu Liu and Leona Maguire competing.
Duke will also feature Virginia Elena Carta, Laetitia Beck,
Jaravee Boonchant, Lindy Duncan and
Miranda Wang competing in LPGA Monday qualifiers, Symetra Tour, Cactus Tour and Ladies European Tour events.
The LPGA's first tournament will be the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 20-23. The tournament is open to past tournament winners with Boutier seeing action this week.
For the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio Jan. 27-30, Belac, Boutier, Lang, Liu and Maguire have entered the event. Beck, Duncan and Kim are slated to try to Monday qualify as well.
For the fourth consecutive year, the LPGA Tour kicks off with the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, with new venue Lake Nona Golf and Country Club joining the new title sponsor. The field includes 29 LPGA Tour winners. The field also features 50 celebrities covering a range of talents in the sports and entertainment worlds, who will tee it up alongside the LPGA Tour stars all four days.
Fans can watch the tournament live on the Golf Channel Jan. 20-23 from 12-3 p.m., each day. NBC will also have coverage on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. Boutier will tee off Thursday in the opening round beginning at 7:41 a.m., along with Maurice Allen and Thomas Fitzgerald.
There will be 72 holes of stroke play with no cut along with a modified stableford scoring format.
