DURHAM – The Virginia High School Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2021 inductees, which includes Duke women's basketball head coach
Kara Lawson. Lawson is one of nine inductees that will be inducted on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
Lawson, in her second season as head coach of the Blue Devils, is originally from Alexandria, Va. She played basketball for West Springfield High School in Springfield, Va., before attending the University of Tennessee. Upon graduation in 2003 with a degree in Finance, Lawson entered the 2003 WNBA Draft and was selected as the fifth overall pick by the Detroit Shock.
Over the course of her professional career, Lawson won a WNBA Championship (2005), was named a WNBA All-Star (2007), and won two gold medals representing the United States in the Olympics (2001, 2008). She also won a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as the head coach for the Women's Olympic Team.
After retiring from the WNBA in 2015, Lawson was named as the primary television game analyst for the Washington Wizards (2017). In 2019, Lawson joined the Boston Celtics organization as an assistant coach and on July 11, 2020, she was named as the head coach for Duke women's basketball.
The Virginia High School Hall of Fame Class of 2021 also features former Duke men's basketball standout JJ Redick.
The 32nd annual Hall of Fame induction will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Charlottesville, Va.
The Hall of Fame is dedicated to remembering and showcasing exceptional achievements of members of the sports community within Virginia's public high schools.
The total membership of the Virginia High School Hall of Fame will be 318 after the 2021 Class.

Lawson and the Blue Devils currently stand at a 11-3 overall record and is looking to bounce back from a loss against Virginia Tech with a game at No. 4 NC State on Sunday, Jan. 16.
