Caitlin Cosme was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in Duke's 2-1 victory over No. 10 Stanford on Thursday, Sept. 2.
Four minutes after the Cardinal evened the score in the 66th minute, the Blue Devils earned a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box, setting Cosme up for an opportunity to go for goal. The New Hyde Park, N.Y., native made the most of it by drilling a right-footed shot off the crossbar and in for her first marker of the season. The goal lifted Duke to a marquee win over a top-10 opponent and helped the Blue Devils improve to 5-0-0 this season.
The stalwart defender also logged a full 90 minutes, anchoring the Duke back line against Stanford's high-powered attack. Cosme leads the team this season with 405 minutes played and now has eight goals in her Blue Devil career – including seven since the start of the 2020-21 season.
This marks the first TopDrawerSoccer honor of the season for Cosme, who earned a spot on the National Team of the Week four times during her senior campaign.
Cosme and the No. 5 Blue Devils (5-0-0) conclude their non-conference slate with a match against East Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 9 at Koskinen Stadium. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
