DURHAM – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced this week that
Garrett Johns,
Sean Sculley and
Andrew Zhang were all named to the organization's preseason singles and doubles rankings.
In singles, juniors Johns and Zhang were tabbed No. 51 and No. 120, respectively, heading into the fall season.

Johns, the Atlanta, Ga., native served as Duke's No. 1 singles player in 2020-21, going 10-9 overall, including victories over No. 34 Adria Soriano Barrera of Miami and No. 47 Jakub Wojcik of South Florida. The Second Team All-ACC recipient clinched two matches for Duke and had 5-of-10 matches against ranked opponents go unfinished.
Zhang led the Blue Devils with a 13-5 singles record last season. Playing mostly at the No. 3 singles position for the latter portion of the year, Zhang wrapped up the regular season at 5-0 in that spot and led the team with a 4-3 record in ACC play. The Bloomfield Hills, Mich., product won three of his final four league matches and four of six during the last leg of the season. The Third Team All-ACC selection concluded the year with five clinching victories for Duke, including wins over Florida State and No. 43 Miami.

Johns was also nationally ranked in doubles action with teammate and graduate student Sculley as the pair came in at No. 9. The Blue Devils' top doubles team from 2020-21 represented Duke during the 2021 NCAA Doubles Championship. The duo became the first Duke doubles team to reach the 32-team field sinceÂ
Spencer Furman andÂ
Nick Stachowiak did so in 2017. The pair finished last season with a 9-10 doubles mark, including a 4-6 record against ranked opponents.
