DURHAM – Seven members of the Duke women's tennis program have been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)'s preseason singles and doubles rankings, as the ITA announced on Tuesday.
In singles, senior
Georgia Drummy leads the way and checks in at No. 5 in the country, as the second-highest ranked player in the ACC, behind only defending NCAA singles champion Emma Navarro of Virginia. For Drummy, it's the highest ranking of her collegiate career, after climbing to No. 19 in the nation last season and going 22-5 with an 8-2 record in the ACC.
Senior
Kelly Chen ranks No. 25, while junior
Chloe Beck lands at No. 28. Chen finished the 2020-21 season with a 13-13 record and 6-7 mark in the ACC, while playing most matches at the No. 1 singles position, while Beck went 20-5 and 9-2 in the ACC.
In doubles, Beck and sophomore
Karolina Berankova earn a ranking of No. 2 in the nation, behind only Ivana and Carmen Corley of Oklahoma. It is the highest ranking of the duo's collegiate career, the top ranking in the ACC, and gives Duke a chance at its fourth No. 1 ranked doubles team, with an opportunity to join Karen Goldstein/Vanessa Webb (1998), Sam Harris/
Kelly Chen (2018) and Ellyse Hamlin/Kaitlyn McCarthy (2018). Beck and Berankova went 18-6 and 6-2 in the ACC during the 2020-21 season.
Joining Beck and Berankova in the doubles rankings are senior
Margaryta Bilokin and graduate student
Eliza Omirou at No. 24 along with Chen and freshman
Ellie Coleman at No. 49. Bilokin will have a new doubles partner following the graduation of
Meible Chi. For Omirou, it's her third straight season as a top-25 doubles player, after two years in the top-25 at Wake Forest.
The Blue Devils will open the fall season in September, looking to serve up a full season for the first time since 2019.
