DURHAM, N.C. – As Duke women's basketball head coach
Kara Lawson enters her second season with the Blue Devils, she released the non-conference portion of Duke's 2021-22 schedule on Tuesday, which features four teams that advanced to the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
The Blue Devils have six home dates for the upcoming season at historic Cameron Indoor Stadium, to go along with five road contests. Of the 2021-22 opponents, South Carolina, Iowa, Alabama and Troy advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
After an exhibition contest on Thursday, Nov. 4 against Wingate at 7 p.m., the Blue Devils open the 2021-22 campaign at Cameron Indoor on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m., versus Winthrop.
Next up on the slate for the Blue Devils is a road contest at Dayton on Friday, Nov. 12, before returning home to host UNC Wilmington on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
For the second time in school history, Duke participates in the Maggie Dixon Classic on Sunday, Nov. 21 in Fort Worth, Texas. Hosted by TCU, the Blue Devils face Alabama in a doubleheader that also features TCU versus North Carolina. Duke takes four student-athletes home for the contest as graduate students

The non-conference schedule continues with three consecutive home games – vs. Appalachian State (Nov. 24), Troy (Nov. 28) and Iowa (Dec. 2). The matchup against the Hawkeyes is part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
The Blue Devils then hit the road to play at The Palestra on Sunday, Dec. 5 against Penn, before returning to Cameron for a battle against South Carolina on Wednesday, Dec. 15. The later contest features two head coaches that led their respective USA Basketball teams to gold medals in Tokyo. Lawson guided the USA Basketball 3x3 squad to gold, while Gamecock head coach Dawn Staley led the USA Women's Basketball team to gold.
Duke closes non-conference action at Charleston Southern on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Notes:
• Duke and Winthrop meet for the fifth time in school history with the Blue Devils leading the series, 4-0. All four previous meetings have come in Durham.
• For the first time since Jan. 3, 1981, the Blue Devils face Dayton. In the previous meeting in Dayton, Ohio, the Flyers won 99-78.
• Duke and UNC Wilmington have met a total of 12 times, but only twice over the last 19 years. The Blue Devils lead the series, 10-2.
• With a 2-1 lead in the series, Duke and Alabama meet for the fourth time in school history and the first time since 2014.
• Duke leads the series with Appalachian State, 10-4, but the two schools have not met since 1993.
• Troy travels to Durham for the second time in school history as the two schools previously met in 2019 with Duke winning 99-85.
• Duke and Iowa face off for the second time in school history with the Blue Devils leading the series, 1-0. The two schools last played in 2008.
• The Blue Devils lead the series with Penn, 4-0, and meet at The Palestra for the second time.
• Duke and South Carolina compete for the eighth time in school history and the fourth time in Cameron with the Gamecocks leading the series, 5-2.
• The Blue Devils lead the series with Charleston Southern, 3-0, and meet for the first time since 2002.
