DURHAM – Four Blue Devils have been selected to compete in the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's All-American Championships, as the ITA announced on Monday.
Seniors
Kelly Chen and
Georgia Drummy have been named as two of 21 automatic qualifiers into the main draw, while junior
Chloe Beck will compete in the qualifying draw and has been named one of 10 alternates.
In doubles, Beck and sophomore
Karolina Berankova have been selected as one of 28 automatic qualifiers in the main draw. Should Beck advance through the qualifying draw in singles, she would join four additional women as the only ones to compete in the main draw in both singles and doubles.
Berankova will make her debut in the event, while Beck, Chen and Drummy are all back after the tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, it was Beck who stormed to the semifinals, beating three seeded players on the way, before falling to eventual champion Ashley Lahey of Pepperdine.
The 2021 ITA Women's All-American Championships will be held in Charleston, S.C. at the LTP Tennis Club from October 4-10. The tournament is another of several big events to come in the fall, including the Blue Devils hosting ITA Kickoff Weekend January 28-31, 2022.
